DENVER - Utah State's Shantel Flanary and Fresno State's Katie DeVault have been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Aug. 21-28.
Flanary, a senior forward from Highland, Utah (Lone Peak HS), scored three of Utah State's four goals last week as the Aggies went 2-0 with a pair of 2-1 road wins against Colorado College and Northern Colorado. In USU's win over the Tigers, Flanary scored the game-winning goal in the second half. In Sunday's victory against the Bears, she tallied her fourth game-winning goal of the season, scoring twice in the victory. This is the first time in school history that Utah State has started a season with a perfect 4-0-0 record.
DeVault, a freshman goalkeeper from Santa Ana, Calif. (Canyon HS), recorded two shutouts on the weekend, picking up a 3-0 win over San Francisco and a 0-0 tie with Loyola Marymount, the No. 21 team in the nation. The freshman made five saves in 190:30 of action over the two games. She is second in the WAC with three shutouts on the season.
