DENVER – A total of 32 WAC student-athletes have been named to the 2011 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team. Twenty-one women and eleven men were named to the team. Utah State led the conference with 12 honors, Idaho and Nevada each garnered six accolades, New Mexico State was represented with three, Fresno State and Hawai‘i each boasted two awards, and Boise State collected one.
Those earning All-Academic status are Boise State’s Eetu Viitala, Fresno State’s Christina Cabias and J’Quyra Moncur-Blue, Hawai‘i’s Madara Apine and Samantha Balentine, Idaho’s Alycia Butterworth, Hannah Kiser, Jeremy Klas, Eugenio Mannucci, Gabby Midles and Liga Velvere, Nevada’s Deborah Amoah, Cortney Beasley, Samantha Diaz, Sabine Kopplin, Sarah Nichols and Danielle Stallworth, New Mexico State’s Kelsey Brennan, Camille Schultz and Courtney Schultz, and Utah State’s Steven Atkinson, Ashlee Cannon, Eric Follett, Ruth Hilton, Kylie Hirschi, Daniel Howell, Tanner Hunt, John Johnson, Philip Noble, Silas Pimentel, Clint Silcock and Lindsey Spencer.
To qualify for the honor, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
