WAC TEAM-BY-TEAM RECAPS

Fresno State Bulldogs (3-3-1, 0-0-0 WAC)
Fresno State went 0-1 last week, losing to the UCLA Bruins, the No. 2 (Soccer Times, Soccer America) team in the nation ... in the 4-1 loss, sophomore defender Kayla Kret became only the third player this year to score a goal on UCLA this season ... she took two shots in the contest and finished with a 1.000 shot on goal percentage ... she now has two goals and four points on the year ... Kret's goal came off a corner kick struck by senior Molly Nizzoli ... freshman goalkeeper Katie DeVault made a career-high nine saves in the match ... this week, the Bulldogs travel to the Colorado College Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo. ... the Bulldogs will take on host Colorado College on Friday and Air Force on Sunday.

Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine (1-6-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Hawai'i went 1-1 last week, dropping a road match at Saint Mary's and then defeating Hawai'i Pacific 6-2 ... the victory over Hawai'i Pacific was the Rainbow Wahine's first of the season ... the win was also the first at Hawai'i for Head Coach Michelle Nagamine, coming against her former team ... in the 1-0 loss to Saint Mary's, Hawai'i was victimized by an own goal, which proved to be the only goal scored in the contest ... freshman Tiana Fujimoto scored two goals vs. Hawai'i Pacific, coming just 19 seconds apart ... the goals set a school record for quickest consecutive goals ... senior defender Brittani Lum added a goal and an assist in the match ... this week, Hawai'i travels to Las Vegas for the UNLV Nike Classic, to take on regionally-ranked San Diego State and host UNLV.

Idaho Vandals (3-3-2, 0-0-0 WAC)
Idaho went 1-1 over the weekend at the Montana Nike Cup ... the Vandals lost 1-0 to Utah Valley on Friday ... the Vandals rebounded for a 3-2 victory over North Dakota State on Sunday ... Idaho's three goals over the weekend were assisted by three different players ... freshman midfielder Katie Baran scored her first career goal on Sunday, while junior forward Chelsea Small scored numbers 26 and 27 of her career, to extend her career scoring record ... Small's game-winner on Sunday also extends that Idaho career record to 11 ... freshman goalkeeper Marissa Fehrman made 12 saves over the weekend, including a career-high eight in the 1-0 loss to Utah Valley ... Idaho is now 25-3-1 under head coach Pete Showler when scoring at least two goals ... this week, Idaho only has one contest, hosting rival Washington State on Sunday.

Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (5-1-3, 0-0-0 WAC)
Louisiana Tech went 1-0-1 over the weekend, playing to a scoreless draw with Tennessee Tech on Friday and dropping Jacksonville State 1-0 on Sunday  ... sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke recorded her sixth shutout of the season on Sunday ... Updyke now has 13 shutouts in her career, the most in a career in program history ... her goals against average is now 0.33 on the season. ... as a team, LTU has shut out seven of nine opponents to begin the season ... allowed first goal in 367:50 when Stephen F. Austin scored 25:57 into the game ... the Stephen F. Austin goal was also the first home goal conceded this season by LTU ... this week, the Lady Techsters travel to Texas for two matches ... LTU visits Texas State on Friday and Sam Houston State on Sunday.

Nevada Wolf Pack (1-6-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Nevada fell to San Francisco on Sunday, the lone game of the week for the Wolf Pack ... after falling behind 2-0, junior goaltender Jenna Riddle held San Francisco scoreless for the final 75:14 of the match after entering the game for starter Dana Moreno ... Riddle made three saves in the contest ... Nevada equalled USF in shots on goal, with six, but couldn't find the back of the net ... this week, the Wolf Pack travel to California for two contests ... on Friday night Nevada takes on regionally ranked Cal Poly ... on Sunday the Wolf Pack face UC Santa Barbara

New Mexico State Aggies (6-2-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
NM State defeated Northern Colorado (2-0) and Arkansas- Little Rock (3-0) last week ... the two victories extended the Aggies' winning streak to six games, the longest in program history ...  against Northern Colorado, sophomore midfielder Mary Kate Koziol scored with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Aggies a 1-0 win ... freshman forward Jennae Cambra scored two goals in the first half of the win over Arkansas-Little Rock ... junior defender Megan Hendler was responsible for defending the opponents' best players ... Hendler has anchored the Aggie defense to five shutouts this season ... for her efforts, Hendler was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week ...  this week, the Aggies visit Idaho State on Friday and Weber State on Sunday.

San Jose State Spartans (0-6-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
San Jose State lost to CSU Bakersfield 4-2 on Friday ... this was the only match of the week for SJSU ... the Spartans held a 2-1 lead at halftime, but couldn't hold the lead in the second half ...  freshman forward McColl Matthews headed home her first career goal in the loss ... the goal was assisted by senior defender Amanda Martin and junior  forward Kelsey Lord ... Lord later added a goal from 25-yards out ... the goal was her second of the season ... senior goalkeeper Meghan Maiwald made 12 saves in the contest, including the initial save on a penalty kick ... Maiwald's 12 saves are the second-most of any WAC goalkeeper this season ... this week, the Spartans travel to Sacramento State on Friday and host Portland State on Sunday.

Utah State Aggies (8-0-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Utah State continued the best start in school history, wining two matches last week to move to 8-0 ... the Aggies defeated regionally-ranked Rice 1-0 behind sophomore midfielder Jennifer Flynn's goal ... senior goalkeeper Molli Merrill recorded her fourth shutout of the season in the win ... senior forward Shantel Flanary scored three goals in only 38 minutes of action of the Aggies' 6-1 victory over Idaho State ... the hat trick was the first of her career ... Flanary earned her third WAC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season ... she is now third all-time in both goals (32) and points (76) in Utah State history ... junior defender Natalie Norris scored the Aggies' first two goals vs. Idaho State, including the game-winner ... Norris scored more goals (2) this weekend than the Aggies' allowed as a defense (1) ... this week, the Aggies go on the road to face Tulsa on Friday and No. 2 in the nation Oklahoma State on Sunday.

WAC NOTES

WEEK FOUR RECAP
WAC teams went a combined 7-5-1 last week, getting back to the .500 mark on the season as a league.  Utah State, New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech went undefeated on the week. Utah State's victories included a 1-0 win over regionally-ranked Rice. New Mexico State defeated Northern Colorado (1-0) and Arkansas-Little Rock (3-0). Louisiana Tech picked up a 1-0 victory over Jackson State and a 1-1 tie versus Stephen F. Austin. Hawai'i went 1-1, finishing out the week with a 6-2 victory over Hawai'i Pacific. Idaho split two contests as well, defeating North Dakota State on Sunday, 3-2.

UTAH STATE REMAINS REGIONALLY-RANKED
On the strength of a school-record 8-0 start, Utah State remained No. 7 in the NSCAA/Adidas West Regional rankings. The Aggies were joined last week by Fresno State, who was No. 9, but the Bulldogs dropped a match at UCLA, the No. 6 team in the nation, and fell from the rankings. The Aggies will have a chance to improve on that ranking this weekend, when they travel to Stillwater, Okla., to take on the No. 2 team in the nation, Oklahoma State.

AGGIES STREAKING
Utah State continued the best start in program history with two more wins last weekend, making it eight-straight wins to begin the season. The other Aggies in the conference, New Mexico State, have also been on a heater. The Las Cruces based Aggies have reeled off six-striaght wins after beginning the year 0-2.

RECORD BREAKERS
Several WAC soccer players either set, or are close to setting, school records:

-Louisiana Tech sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke recorded her sixth shutout of the season, tied for second-most in a single season in school history. She now has 13 shutouts in her career, most in program history.

-Hawai'i freshman Tiana Fujimoto scored two goals vs. Hawai'i Pacific,
just 19 seconds apart. The goals set a school record for quickest
consecutive goals.

-Utah State sophomore midfielder Kendra Pemberton has 10 assists in her career, one assist away from tying for fourth place with Amber Tracy (2000-03) who had 11 career assists. Forward Shantel Flanary, who is still active, is tied for second on the all-time assist list with 12.

Flanary herself had a three-goal spurt against Idaho State that helped her climb the Aggie record books. She is now tied for third all-time in goals scored with Brigid Turner with 32. She is only five away from tying Aggie-great Lauren Hansen, who set the record last season with 37 goals scored. Flanary is now third all-time in career points scored with 76, just one point behind Jayme Gordy (1997-2002).  She is only eight points behind Hansen's USU-record 84 points.

-Idaho junior forward Chelsea Small extended her school record for goals  when she scored numbers 26 and 27 of her career on Sunday. Her game-winner on Sunday also extends that Idaho career record to 11.
