DENVER – New Mexico State’s Jonah Ruybalid and Nevada’s Johanna Olsson have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 5-11.
Ruybalid, a junior from Los Lunas, N.M. (Los Lunas HS), placed fifth overall at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational last week. It marks the second-straight week that Ruybalid has finished with the best overall time for New Mexico State in an event. Ruybalid placed fifth at the event with a time of 21:43.4.
Olsson, a sophomore from Taby, Sweden (Rudbeckskolan HS), led the Wolf Pack in her first-ever collegiate race placing fifth with a 4K time of 15:15 at the Nevada Twilight race last week. Olsson placed fifth in her first run as a member of the Nevada team, taking on runners from Utah and UNLV.
