Verizon WAC Soccer Players of the Week Announced

DENVER -Fresno State's Lauren Lindstrom and Kayla Kret have been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of September 19-25.

Lindstrom, a sophomore defender from Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Oaks Christian HS), scored the game-winning goal against Cal Poly 6:13 into overtime, corralling a rebound off a corner kick before finishing. Lindstrom's third goal of the season gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 victory over Cal Poly, the ninth-ranked team in the NSCAA West Region Rankings. She played more than 200 minutes in two overtime games on the weekend and now boasts a .600 shot on goal percentage on the season.

Kret, a sophomore defender from Newhall, Calif. (W.S. Hart HS), was a starter on defense that held No. 8 Pepperdine scoreless for the final 108 minutes to earn a 1-1 tie in double overtime. Kret also scored the game-tying goal, heading home a corner kick in the 18th minute. All three of her goals on the year have come off of headers, and two have come against ranked opponents. She also played 96 minutes in the Bulldogs 3-2 victory over regionally-ranked Cal Poly.

Other offensive nominees included: Idaho forward Jill Flockhart scored a game-winning goal ... Louisiana Tech defender Scotti Culton scored a goal and had two assists ... Nevada forward Kori Disarufino scored a game-winning goal in overtime ... New Mexico State midfielder/forward Katie Smith scored two goals ... Utah State midfielder Lexie Morgan scored her first collegiate goal.

Other defensive nominees included: Idaho goalkeeper Caroline Towles had a shutout victory ... Louisiana Tech defender Olivia Lukasewich helped her team achieve its ninth shutout of the season and scored two goals ... Nevada defender Lauren Braman started her 52 consecutive match ... New Mexico State defender Megan Handler anchored defense in a shutout victory.
