Fresno State Bulldogs (3-1-2, 0-0-0 WAC)
Fresno State went 1-1 over the weekend, dropping a 3-2 match at UC Santa Barbara and then defeating Sacramento State 2-0 on Sunday ... moved up one place to No. 9 in the NCSAA West Region ranking this week ... the shutout was the Bulldogs fourth this season ... sophomore midfielder Morgan Castain was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts ... Castain scored twice vs. UCSB and followed that up with the game-winning goal on Sunday ... defender Lauren Lindstrom, a sophomore, lead the defense in the shutout win over Sacramento State and added an assist ... this week, Fresno State travels to UCLA on Sunday ... UCLA is a consensus Top 10 team, ranking as high as No. 6 in the polls.
Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine (0-5-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Hawai'i went 0-2 over the weekend, losing two matches against ranked teams ... on Friday, the Rainbow Wahine led at halftime over UC Irvine, but surrendered two second-half goals in a tight loss to the current No. 11 team in the country ... UH took 1-0 lead on true freshman Tiana Fujimoto's goal in the 43rd minute, but the Anteaters rallied in the second half ... junior goalkeeper Kanani Taaca posted 14 saves in the two games ... the three-match California road trip for the Warriors concludes Tuesday night when the Rainbow Wahine travel to face-off with Saint Mary's (Calif.) ... Hawai'i then returns home for a Sunday match against Hawai'i Pacific.
Idaho Vandals (2-2-2, 0-0-0 WAC)
Idaho went 2-0 over the weekend, claiming the Governor's Cup title ... the Vandals Idaho got into the win column with back-to-back victories against Idaho State (4-1)and Montana (3-2) ... after scoring just three goals in their first four games, Idaho netted seven in their two matches this weekend, with five different scorers ... on Sunday, head coach Pete Showler became the program's all-time winningest coach with his 34th career victory, and junior forward Chelsea Small became the leading scorer in program history with her 24th and 25th career goals ... Lilly Archer, Chelsie Breen, Megan Lopez and Chelsea Small were selected to the All-Tournament Team ... the Vandals will look to win a second consecutive tournament this weekend, as they travel to Missoula, Mont. for the Montana Nike Cup ... the Vandals will square off with Utah Valley on Friday and North Dakota State on Sunday.
Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (4-1-2, 0-0-0 WAC)
Louisiana Tech went 1-0-1 at Adidas Gamecock Soccer Classic, playing to a scoreless draw with Tennessee Tech on Friday and dropping Jacksonville State 1-0 on Sunday ... goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke recorded her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season ... Updyke now has 12 shutouts in her career, tying her for the most in a career in program history ...the win against JSU was 18th of her career, the most in school history ... as a team, LTU shutout six of first seven opponents to begin the season ... has not allowed a goal in last 341:53 (last goal: McNeese State) ... first time since 2006 that team has had two 0-0 draws in a season ... only three players have scored multiple goals this season (Lukasewich, Brennan, Sentz) ... Six shutouts are tied for the fourth most in a single season (Most is 10 in 2008) ... this week, the Lady Techsters host Stephen F. Austin on Friday and travel to Jackson State on Sunday ...
Nevada Wolf Pack (1-5-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Nevada hosted the Wolf Pack Classic and dropped a pair of matches over the weekend, losing 2-0 to Portland State and 2-1 to in-state rival UNLV ... freshman forward Abieyuwa Ogiamien had the Wolf Pack's lone goal of the weekend ... her header in the 13th minute, off a cross from senior defender Annabelle Allen, gave Nevada a 1-0 lead on UNLV ... Ogiamien and Allen were named to the All-Tournament team, along with sophomore defender Danielle Green ... Dana Moreno and Jenna Riddle split goaltending duties in the two games ... both were kept busy, as Riddle made seven saves vs. Portland State, while Moreno made 6 against UNLV ... this week, Nevada plays just one match, hosting San Francisco on Sunday.
New Mexico State Aggies (4-2-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
NM State captured the Adidas/Gamecock Soccer Classic crown with a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville State on Friday and a 1-0 win over Tennessee Tech on Sunday ... the Aggies are on a four-match winning streak, outshooting opponents in all four matches ... goalkeeper Erin Wosick allowed only one goal over the weekend while making nine saves, notching her third shutout of the season Sunday ... she was named to the All-Tournament team, along with forward Mary Kate Koziol ... Koziol scored the game-winning goal on Sunday and leads the team with five points ... Yolanda McMillion and Katie Smith scored vs. Jacksonville State ... this week, the Aggies host Northern Colorado on Friday and Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday.
San Jose State Spartans (0-5-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
San Jose State went 0-2, losing 2-0 to Cal Poly on Friday and 5-2 to UC Davis on Sunday ... senior midfielder Shanelle Furner scored her first points of the season Sunday, with a first-half goal and second-half assist ... junior defender Kelsey Holm added the other San Jose State goal against UC Davis ... despite failing to score, the Spartans out shot Cal Poly on Friday night 14-9, with a 10-6 advantage in the second half, but only two shots found their way on target ... senior forward Lauren Sanchez was responsible for four shots ... goalkeeper Meghan Maiwald made eight saves in the two matches, giving her 25 saves on the season ... this week, the Spartans play just one match, travelling to CSU Bakersfield on Friday.
Utah State Aggies (6-0-0, 0-0-0 WAC)
Utah State improved to 6-0-0 this week with a pair of 1-0 wins ... on the strength of the best start in school history, the Aggies have risen to the No. 7 position in the NCSAA West Region rankings ... Utah State won its first match against in-state rival Utah in Logan since 1997 on Friday ... goalkeeper Molli Merrill posted a pair of shutouts, which lowered her goals against average to 0.49 on the season ... in the double overtime win over the Titans, Merrill had a season-high saves, including a game-saver in the first overtime ... she was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week for he efforts ... midfielder Kendra Pemberton scored the golden goal in the 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton ... she had one goal and two shots on goal in the Aggies' two matches ... forward Mary Miyashiro was the hero vs. Utah, scoring in the 85th minute, finishing after gathering in a deflected shot ... this week, the Aggies host Rice on Thursday and Idaho State on Sunday.
WAC NOTES
WEEK THREE RECAP
WAC teams went a combined 8-7-1 last week. Utah State picked up two more wins to move to 6-0, continuing the best start in school history with a double-overtime win on Sunday over Cal State Fullerton. New Mexico State took home the Adidas/Gamecock Soccer Classic by winning two matches in Jacksonville, Ala. The Aggies, winners of four straight matches, barely edged out Louisiana Tech for the title, as the Lady Techsters picked up a win over Jacksonville State and tied Tennessee Tech in the same tournament. Idaho picked up two wins over Idaho State and Montana, moving back to .500 for the year. Fresno State went 1-1, defeating Sacramento State and losing to UC Santa Barbara.
TWO WAC TEAMS TOP 10 IN WEST REGION
On the strength a school-record 6-0 start, Utah State moved from No. 9 to No. 7 in the NSCAA/Adidas West Regional Rankings. The Aggies aren't alone, as Fresno State also moved up to the No. 9 position after checking in at No. 9 last week.
