Utah State 74, New Mexico State 56
Utah State opened WAC play with a 74-56 win at New Mexico State Thursday. With the win, USU improves to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference. NM State falls to 3-13 on the season and 0-1 in the WAC.
USU shot 55 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range and 73 percent from the free throw line on the game. NM State connected on 44 percent from the field, 18 percent from downtown and 67 percent from the charity stripe. NM State edged Utah State on the boards, 30-28.
Brooke Jackson led all players with 18 points on 78 percent shooting. Ashlee Brown added 15 points, Maddy Plunkett had 13 and Devyn Christensen finished with 12.
NM State was paced by Kelsie Rozendaal and Jasmine Rutledge with 12 points apiece. Camila Rosen posted her first career double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Louisiana Tech 66, Idaho 54
Louisiana Tech opened WAC play with a 66-54 home victory over Idaho Thursday night. With the win, LA Tech improves to 8-8 overall and 1-0 in the WAC. Idaho drops to 5-12 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.
The Lady Techsters shot 32 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line on the game. Idaho connected on 33 percent from the field, 30 percent from beyond the arc and just 55 percent from the charity stripe. The Vandals edged LA Tech on the boards, 49-47, but committed 23 turnovers to the Lady Techsters' 11.
Shantale Bramble-Donaldson led LA Tech with 12 points, followed by Angie Felton with 11 and Tavasha Anderson with 10.
The Vandals were paced by Alyssa Charlston's double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
