Utah State 79, Louisiana Tech 62
The Aggies handed LA Tech its first WAC loss at home in nearly two years
when they defeated the Lady Techsters 79-62 Saturday. With the win, USU
improves to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the WAC. Tech drops to 8-9 on the
season and 1-1 in conference play.
Utah State matched its season-high 57 percent shooting from the field,
hit a season-best 62 percent from three-point range and connected on 77
percent from the free throw line on the game. The Lady Techsters shot 34
percent from the field, 18 percent from beyond the arc and 59 percent
from the free throw line. Both teams grabbed 36 boards.
Devyn Christensen led all players with 20 points, followed by Ashlee Brown and Brooke Jackson with 17 points each.
Whitney Frazied paced LA Tech with 14 points, followed by Whitney Jones with 13 and Brittany Hardy with 10.
Fresno State 85, Nevada 67
The Bulldogs drained 14 three-pointers in an 85-67 WAC-opening win over Nevada Saturday. With the win, Fresno State improves to 13-4 overall and 1-0 in the WAC. The Wolf Pack drop to 4-12 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The Bulldogs shot 44 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line on the game. Nevada shot 50 percent from the field, 22 percent from downtown and 64 percent from the chariry stripe on the game. Fresno State out-rebounded the Pack 40-33.
Veronica Wilson led all players with 18 points, followed by Bree Farley with 14, Madison Parrish with 13 and Taylor Thompson with 11. Ki-Ki Moore grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Nevada was led by Chanelle Brennan with 13 points, Arielle Wideman with 12 and Kate Kevorken with 11.
New Mexico State 61, Idaho 47
The Aggies held Idaho to just 26 percent shooting in a 61-47 win at home Saturday. With the win, NM State improves to 4-13 on the season and 1-1 in WAC play. The Vandals drop to 5-13 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The Aggies shot 43 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range and 63 percent from the free throw line on the game. Idaho connected on 26 percent from the floor, 38 percent from downtown and 59 percent from the charity stripe. NM State out-rebounded the Vandals 42-37.
Tabytha Wampler led the Aggies with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Soto had a team-high 14 points, while Chrissy Fletcher added 11.
Idaho was paced by Alyssa Charlston's game highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
San Jose State 83, Hawai‘i 67
San Jose State had four players reach double-figure scoring, led by Brittany Johnson's 22-point, 12-rebound double-double, as the Spartans won their WAC opener 83-67 over Hawai'i Saturday. With the win, SJSU improves to 6-10 overall and 1-0 in the WAC. The Rainbow Wahine drop to 5-11 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.
The victory marks the first time since the 2005-06 season that San Jose State has won its conference opener. In addition, Johnson extended her streak of double-digit scoring to 16 games.
San Jose State shot 42 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and a season-high 82 percent from the free throw line. Hawai‘i shot 36 percent from the floor, 17 percent from downtown and 62 percent from the charity stripe. The Rainbow Wahine won the rebounding battle, 43-40.
Reigning WAC Player of the Week Sara Plavljanin had 19 points, six assists and five rebounds. Ta'Rea Cunnigan added 14 and Brea Matthews scored a career-high 12 points.
Hawai'i had three players in double figures, led by 17 points from Sydney Haydel. Breanna Arbuckle and Vicky Tagalicod had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kamilah Jackson led the Rainbow Wahine with 13 rebounds and added eight points.
