DENVER – Fresno State’s Marianne Jodoin has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 8-15.
Jodoin, a sophomore from Varennes, Canada (Ecole Georges High School), opened the spring season with a pair of singles victories and one doubles win at the California Winter Invitational, where the Bulldogs played in a round-robin tournament against three ranked teams – No. 8 Cal, No. 41 St. Mary’s and No. 44 Cal Poly. Jodoin, ranked No. 49 in the nation, opened the weekend with a three-set victory over 82nd-ranked Catherine Isip of St. Mary’s. After dropping a straight-set singles match against Jana Juricova of Cal, the fifth-ranked singles player in the country, on Saturday, Jodoin came back to defeat Cal Poly’s Alexa Lee, 6-3, 6-3, on Sunday.
Other women’s nominees included: Hawai’i senior Katarina Poljakova.
