ATHLETES OF THE WEEK (Jan. 9-15)
Hawai’i’s Christa Prior and Daniella Nero have been named the Verizon WAC Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 9-15.
Prior, a senior from Willows, Calif. (Willows HS), won both the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter backstroke events in Hawai’i’s dual against Wisconsin. She touched at 56.19 in the 100 backstroke and at 2:01.91 in the 200 backstroke. She was also on two relay teams, earning a first-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay and second-place in the 200-meter medley relay.
Nero, a senior from Jonkoping, Sweden (Sandagymnasiet), won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions against Wisconsin last weekend. Her score of 339.50 on the 3-meter board was good for second-best in the WAC this season. The 303.25 in the 1-meter was the third-best in the conference this season. Both scores were personal bests.
Other swimmers nominated: Fresno State junior Dani Yoho … San Jose State senior Heather Denman.

TEAM RECAPS
Fresno State Bulldogs (4-5)
Fresno State hosted a quad dual on Saturday, defeating Cal State East Bay, 233-47, and Cal State Bakersfield, 206-87, but falling to San Diego State, 174.5-114.5 ... junior Dani Yoho won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.62 ... sophomore Brittany Buna earned first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.35, finishing just ahead of sophomore Michelle Dockendorf ... The Bulldogse 400 Yard Freestyle Relay squad (Yoho, Courtney Sheehan, Brooke Fuller, Lucy Titchin) took first place with a time of 3:35.02 ... this week, the Bulldogs now prepare for The Beach Invitational in San Diego as they take on the University of San Diego and Loyola Marymount on Friday and Saturday.
Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine (0-3)

Idaho Vandals (2-3)
Idaho defeated Fresno State 165-135 on Dec. 2 in a conference dual in its last action ... freshman Rachel Millet won three individual events, taking the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle races ... freshman Erica Anderson won the 100 and 200 backstroke events ... the Vandals also won both of the relays during the dual ... Anderson and Millet teamed with sophomore Megan Venlos and junior Kelsie Saxe in the 400 medley relay ... Anderson, Venlos, senior Katie Hendricks and senior Si Jia Pang combined to win the 200 freestyle relay, giving Anderson four victories on the day ... this week, the Vandals return to the pool after over a month off, travelling to New Mexico State on Saturday for a conference dual.
Nevada Wolf Pack (3-1)
The Nevada diving team dominated the platform discipline at the Hawai’i Diving Invitational on Jan. 7, occupying three of the top five spots ... sophomore Grace Huang won the platform event with a score of 262.95 ... sophomore Stephanie Hansen finished second with a score of 253.20, followed by senior Melyssa Charlton in fifth at 201.55 and sophomore Jennifer Arnold in seventh with a score of 167.50 ... Hansen and Huang placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the three-meter competition ... the entire Wolf Pack squad hasn’t seen action in almost two months ... Nevada will return to the pool to host Seattle on Jan. 28.
New Mexico State Aggies (2-6)
The Aggies returned to the pool for the 2012 spring semester with a five-team meet in Tucson, Ariz. Jan. 6 ... NM State fell to WAC foe Northern Arizona 145-117, Oregon State 157-105, Iowa, 160-102 and No. 5 Arizona 188-71 ... freshman Jessica Legge garnered runner-up honors in the 200 individual medley, while sophomore Tricia Kiss followed in fourth place ... junior Beth Cate led Aggies with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly ... the team of senior Rachelle Bassen, junior Haley Gansneder, senior Brittney Moore and freshman Victoria Palombit won the the 200-free relay ... this week, the Aggies are off ... this week, NMSU returns to action on Saturday in a conference dual vs. Idaho.
North Dakota Fighting Sioux (4-6)
In the final competitive event of its Florida training trip, North Dakota fell to Florida Gulf Coast 168-75, Georgia Tech 180-63 and Liberty 121-115 in a four-team dual on Jan. 7 ... the team picked up 10 individual top-five finishes and two relay top-five finishes, but were unable to tally a team win over the competition ... on the boards, senior Megan Keidel placed second on the 1-meter board with a mark of 245.55 and third on the 3-meter board with a score of 238.60 ... sophomore Morgan Lynch led the team with fourth-place finishes in the 1,000 free (1:32.94) and the 500 free (5:08.77) ... in its next action, UND will host South Dakota State on Friday, Jan. 27 and South Dakota on Jan. 28.
Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (6-5)
In its last action, Northern Arizona went 1-3 at a five-team meet in Tuscon, Ariz. on Jan. 7 ... NAU defeated New Mexico State, 151-148, but fell to No. 5 Arizona, 201-96, Oregon State, 180-114, and Iowa, 181-113 ... junior Kristy Ardavanis won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events ... sophomore Emma Lowther took fourth in the 1000 freestyle with a season-best time of 10:23.21, the fastest time in the WAC this season ... the next action for NAU will be the team’s last before the WAC Championship ... NAU divers will compete at the Falcon Diving Invitational on Jan. 27-28, with the swimmers to race at Grand Canyon on Saturday, Jan. 28.
San Jose State Spartans (5-1)
San Jose State claimed a 137-81 victory over Cal State East Bay on Friday ... a quartet of seniors (Heather Denman, Karly Brown, Kirsten Trammell and Meghan McCurley) started off the dual meet against the Pioneers with a 200 medley relay win ... in diving, Amy Kilby was the winner of the 3-meter springboard consolation final the Stanford Diving Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. ... her score of 248.85 in the finals bested 11 other divers for a ninth-place overall finish ... this week, the Spartans will travel to CSU Bakersfield to face the Roadrunners, the second time this season that the two teams have met.
