ATHLETES OF THE WEEK (Jan. 16-22)
Idaho’s Rachel Millet and Fresno State’s Stacey Luke have been named the Verizon WAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 16-22.
Luke, a junior from Kenmore, Wash. (Inglemoor HS), set a career high and broke a school record while taking first in the 1-meter diving competition at the University of San Diego Beach Cup. Her score of 294.70 was 30 points higher than the second-place finisher and broke the 10-year-old Fresno State record, previously held by Ashleigh Raley. Luke also added a fourth-place finish in the 3-meter diving competition.
Millet, a freshman from Spokane, Wash. (Ferris HS), won three individual events and was part of a relay win in a dual at New Mexico State. Millet captured first place in the 50-meter freestyle (24.61), the 100-meter free (52.64) and the 200-meter free (1:52.46), also swimming a leg for the first-place 400-meter free relay team. She earned first place in all four events in which she competed.

Fresno State Bulldogs (4-5)
Fresno State finished second at the USD Beach Cup in San Diego, Calif., finishing ahead of Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine, but behind San Diego ... junior diver Stacey Luke finishing first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 294.70 ... the score was a season best, career best and school record for Luke, breaking a 10-year record set by Ashleigh Raley in 2002 ... sophomore Michelle Dockendorf and junior Britney Vogel tied for first in the 100-yard breastroke, finishing with a time of 1:07.86 ... sophomore Hannah Prigge won 3-meter dive with score of 274.80, 50 points higher than second place ... junior Dani Yoho won the 50-free (24.11) ... Fresno is off this week, next competing vs. San Jose State on Feb. 4.
Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine (0-3)
In its last action, Hawai’i fell 172-123 in a dual meet against Wisconsin, on Jan. 14... senior Christa Prior won both the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter backstroke events against Wisconsin ... she touched at 56.19 in the 100 backstroke and at 2:01.91 in the 200 backstroke ... she was also on two relay teams, earning a first-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay and second-place in the 200-meter medley relay ... senior Daniella Nero won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions ... her score of 339.50 on the 3-meter board was good for second-best in the WAC this season ... Hawai’i is off until the WAC Swimming and Diving Championships, which will take place Feb. 22-25, in San Antonio, Texas.
Idaho Vandals (2-4)
Idaho fell to WAC foe New Mexico State 171-125 last Saturday ... junior Paige Hunt not only broke Idaho’s 17-year-old 3-meter diving record, she qualified for zones with her winning score of 292.43 ... sophomore Mairin Jameson won for the first time as a collegian when she captured the one-meter event with a personal-best score of 248.43 ... freshman Rachel Millet captured first place in the 50-meter freestyle (24.61), the 100-meter free (52.64) and the 200-meter free (1:52.46), also swimming a leg for the first-place 400-meter free relay team ... this week, Idaho hosts Oregon State for a dual on Saturday.
Nevada Wolf Pack (3-1)
In its last action, the Nevada diving team dominated the platform discipline at the Hawai’i Diving Invitational on Jan. 7, occupying three of the top five spots ... sophomore Grace Huang won the platform event with a score of 262.95 ... sophomore Stephanie Hansen finished second with a score of 253.20, followed by senior Melyssa Charlton in fifth at 201.55 and sophomore Jennifer Arnold in seventh with a score of 167.50 ... Hansen and Huang placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the three-meter competition ... the entire Wolf Pack squad hasn’t seen action in almost two months ... this week, Nevada returns to the pool to host a double-dual vs. Seattle on Saturday.
New Mexico State Aggies (3-6)
NMSU defeated WAC opponent Idaho 171-125 last Saturday, sending out the senior class as winners in the final home meet of the year ... junior Beth Cate paced the squad with three individual victories ... she claimed top honors in the 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter fly and 200-meter individual medley ... sophomore Terrin Seaver posted a pair of individual victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke, in addition to a first-place finish in the 200-meter medley relay ... senior Rachelle Bassen won the 1,000-meter free ... sophomore Jaymee Porter contributed with runner-up finishes on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards ... NMST is off this week, with its next action on Feb. 4 vs. rival New Mexico.
North Dakota Fighting Sioux (4-6)
North Dakota women’s diving team took part in the 44th Annual Vaughn Baird Polar Bear Classic Invitational Diving Competition last Sunday, in Winnepeg, MB. ... senior Megan Keidel and sophomore Alexis Thomsen both finished in the top 10 in the platform competition ... Keidel took fifth with a score of 196.65, and Thomsen finished seventh with a season-high score of 164.75 ... this week, UND will host South Dakota State on Friday and South Dakota on Saturday.
Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (6-5)
In its last action, Northern Arizona went 1-3 at a five-team meet in Tuscon, Ariz. on Jan. 7 ... NAU defeated New Mexico State, 151-148, but fell to No. 5 Arizona, 201-96, Oregon State, 180-114, and Iowa, 181-113 ... junior Kristy Ardavanis won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events ... sophomore Emma Lowther took fourth in the 1000-meter freestyle with a season-best time of 10:23.21, the fastest time in the WAC this season ... the next action for NAU will be the team’s last before the WAC Championship ... NAU divers will compete at the Falcon Diving Invitational on Friday and Saturday, with the swimmers to race at Grand Canyon on Saturday.
San Jose State Spartans (6-1)
San Jose State topped CSU Bakersfield 156-104 last Friday, defeating the Roadrunners for the second time this season ... the Spartans won 11 of the 16 events on the day ... sophomore Briana Swinney was a three-time winner, swimming a leg on the Spartans’ winning 200-meter medley relay, before taking the 50-meter backstroke (28.25) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:00.04) ... sophomore Darcie Anderson also grabbed a trio of victories, with a part in the 200-meter medley relay win, along with first-place finishes in the 50-meter breaststroke (29.73) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:04.10) ... this week, SJSU is off ... the next competition will be Feb. 4, when SJSU faces WAC foe Fresno State.
