Utah State 3, New Mexico State 0
Utah State handed New Mexico State its first WAC loss of the season Thursday, sweeping NM State 25-21, 27-25, 25-16. With the win, Utah State improves to 11-5 overall and 6-1 in WAC play. NM State falls to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the WAC.
Utah State out-hit NM State .194 to .035. USU also had more kills (35-31), aces (3-2), digs (47-46) and blocks (12-6.5).
Shay Sorensen, Kaitlyn Van Hoff and Rachel Orr each tallied eight kills to lead USU. Sorensen added seven digs and five blocks, while Van Hoff had seven blocks. Paige Neves just missed a double-double, finishing with 24 assists and nine digs, while Ashlan Rogers had 11 digs.
Dersiree Scott led NM State with seven kills, while Stephanie Ziegler had 11 digs.
UTSA 3, Louisiana Tech 0
UTSA swept Louisiana Tech (25-17, 25-15, 25-19) in WAC action Thursday night. With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the WAC. The Lady Techsters, who lost their ninth consecutive match, drop to 3-15 on the season and 0-6 in WAC play.
UTSA out-hit LA Tech .320 to .098. The Roadrunners also had more kills (45-30), assists (40-29), aces (8-2), digs (55-40) and blocks (7-1).
For UTSA, Whitney Walls tallied 11 kills, while Brandy Huskey and Erin Foley split time running the offense and contributed 18 and 16 assists, respectively. Foley also racked up a season-high five service aces.
Maria Coelho dished out 25 assists, while Stephany Salas finished with 15 digs for the Lady Techsters.
San Jose State 3, Denver 0
Mary Alice O'Reilly led San Jose State to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-23) win over Denver in WAC action at Spartan Gym Thursday night. With the win, the Spartans improve to 8-9 overall and 4-3 in the WAC. The Pioneers fall to 8-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
For the match, the Spartans hit .333 with 43 kills, compared to the .207 and 33 kills of Denver. SJSU also had seven service aces, but was out-blocked 6-3 on the match.
O'Reilly hit .800 for the match with 12 kills on 15 attempts and no hitting errors. Krista Miller added 10 kills, followed by Samantha O'Connell with eight and Alex Akana with seven. Michaela Leonard had 37 assists and a team-best three service aces in the win.
Faimie Kingsley led DU with 12 kills and five blocks.
Texas State 3, UT Arlington 1
Texas State defeated UT Arlington, 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 18-25, 25-15) at Strahan Coliseum Thursday night. The Bobcats improved to 8-9 overall and evened their record at 3-3 in the WAC with the victory, while UT Arlington dropped to 6-12 overall and 2-4 in conference.
Texas State tied its season high for kills with 58 and recorded its second highest team hitting percentage for the season (.294). UTA had 40 kills in .123 hitting.
Amari Deardorff paced the Bobcats with 16 kills and a .455 hitting percentage – the highest qualifying hitting percentage for any Bobcat in a match this season. Alexandra Simms posted a career-high 15 kills, while Ashlee Hilbun registered 10 kills, 12 digs and five blocks. It was her first double-double of the season and third of her career.
Caleigh McCorquodale also had a double-double, finishing with a team-high 25 assists to go along with 12 digs. Sierra Smith tallied a career-high 12 digs, while Laura Whalen added 10.
UTA was paced by Ashley Bennett with 11 kills and Amy DaVault with 10. Valerie Stetzer posted a match-high 18 digs, while Shelby Dickson added 13.
