Texas State 82, Belmont 76
The Bobcats had five players in double-digit scoring in an 82-76 win over Belmont Friday to open the season.
Texas State shot 41 percent from the field, 32 percent from three-point range and 64 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Bobcats were out-rebounded, 49-42.
Diamond Ford led Texas State with 21 points. Ashley Ezeh posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Kaylan Martin finished with 13 points. Jasmine Baugus and Erin Peoples chipped in 11 apiece.
UTSA 68, UT-Pan American 34
UTSA opened the season with a dominating 68-34 win over UT-Pan American Friday.
The Roadrunners shot 37 percent from the field, 21 percent from three-point range and 52 percent from the free throw line on the game. UTSA won the rebounding battle, 52-42 and forced 23 UTPA turnovers.
Kamra King led the Roadrunners with 10 points.
San Jose State 70, San Francisco State 51
Classye James had a game-high 21 points, including hitting 11-for-12 from the free throw line, and three other Spartans scored in double figures as the San Jose State pulled away from San Francisco State in the second half for a 70-51 season-opening victory on Friday night in The Event Center.
For the game, San Jose State shot 38 percent from the field, 25 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line. The Spartans edged the Gators on the boards, 47-44.
Emily Schill had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Ta'Rea Cunnigan added 16 points and eight boards, and Chereese Thomas added 10 points and six steals.
Pacific 71, Seattle U 70
After trailing by 10 points at halftime, Seattle U outscored Pacific 44-35 in the second half, but fell just short of a win, faling 71-70 in its season opener Friday.
The Redhawks shot 40 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 71 percent from the free throw line on the game. Seattle U was out-rebounded 41-34.
Ashley Ward led the Redhawks with 21 points, while Kacie Sowell added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Brenda Adhiambo scored 11 points.
Tulane 66, Louisiana Tech 59
Louisiana Tech outscored the Green Wave 30-25 in the second half, but it wasn't enough as it fell 66-59 at Tulane to open the season Friday.
LA Tech shot 40 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line, but went 0-for-10 from three-point range. The Lady Techsters out-rebounded Tulane 40-36.
Tavasha Anderson led LA Tech with 15 points, while Brittany Lewis added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Wyoming 86, Idaho 53
Idaho's sub-par second half shooting performance resulted in an 86-53 season-opening loss at Wyoming on Friday night.
The
Vandals shot just 22 percent from the field in the second half and 29
percent on the game, while Wyoming connected on more than 50 percent,
including 59 percent in the second half. The Vandals went just 4-of-21
from three-point range, as Wyoming hit 7-of-19 three-pointers. The
Cowgirls also held a 41-34 advantage on rebounds,
Ali Forde led
all players with 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, and
added seven points. Christina Salvatore was the Only Vandal to reach
double-figures in scoring, finishing with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
George Washington 80, UT Arlington 47
The Mavericks were outscored by 30 points in the second half en route to an 80-47 season-opening loss at George Washington Friday.
UT Arlington shot 30 percent from the field, 39 percent from downtown and 63 percent from the charity stripe on the game. George Washington out-rebounded the Mavericks 54-35.
Aron Garcia, Malaika Green and Laila Suleiman had eight points each to pace UTA. Garcia also grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss.
