The Pioneers trailed by as many as 24 and fell 75-60 to Utah in their season opener Saturday.
Denver shot 42 percent from the field, 14 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line on the game. Utah, meanwhile, connected on 51 percent from the field, 42 percent from downtown and 65 percent from the charity stripe. The Utes edged the Pioneers on the boards, 33-32.
Maiya Michel led DU with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Morgan Van Riper-Rose added 11 points and Jordan Johnston had 10. Emiko Smith dished out seven assists in the loss.
