San Marcos, Texas – (Texas State Media Relations) Matt Staff tied his career high of 28 points, as the senior forward helped guide Texas State past visiting UT-Tyler tonight at Strahan Coliseum. The victory improves the Bobcats' record to 2-0 to start the season.
In addition to Staff's 28 points, he also grabbed 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season. Junior transfer Joel Wright added 19 points and nine rebounds, while junior Reid Koenen chipped in 13 points and eight boards.

Houston 77, San Jose State 75
San Jose, Calif.--(SJSU Media Relations) San Jose State guard D.J. Brown scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, but a late Spartan fell short in a 77-75 non-conference men's basketball loss to the University of Houston.
Backcourt teammate James Kinney added 15 of his 19 in the second half as the Spartans attempted to overcome an 18-point halftime deficit. San Jose State finally got Houston's lead into single digits, 69-60, with 1:58 remaining on a Brown lay-up and was as close as 74-72 with 17 seconds remaining.
