Seattle U 63, Portland 61
Seattle U picked up its first win of the season, defeating Portland 63-61 Friday in the Washington Dental Service Thanksgiving Tournament. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 1-3 on the season.
Portland out-shot Seattle U 49 percent to 38 percent from the field and 24 percent to 17 percent from three-point range, but the Redhawks out-rebounded Portland 41-32 and forced 27 Portland turnovers.
Sylvia Shephard led the Redhawks with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Kacie Sowell added 19 points and seven rebounds.
New Mexico State 55, George Mason 52
New Mexico State defeated George Mason 55-52 on the first day of the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic. With the win, NM State improves to 2-2 on the season.
The Aggies shot 36 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point range and 56 percent from the free throw line on the game. NM State was out-rebounded 38-31.
Danesia Williamson led the Aggies wtih a career-high 18 points, while Sasha Weber added 13.
UTSA 69, Austin Peay 67
UTSA closed the first half on a 15-1 run to grab a lead it would not relinquish and the Roadrunners held off Austin Peay, 69-67, on Friday night in the opening game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic at the Convocation Center. With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 4-1 on the season.
UTSA shot 45 percent from the field, 35 percent from three-point range and 63 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Roadrunners dominated the glass with 47 rebounds, including 15 on the offensive end that led to 13 second-chance points. UTSA also scored 19 points off of 16 Lady Govs turnovers.
Kamra King led the Roadrunners with 10 points, while five other players had at least seven points. Cori Cooper, Niaga Mitchell-Cole and Simone Young finished with eight boards each.
