WAC TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

Idaho Vandals  
Idaho's women edged WAC newcomer UTSA by a three-point margin, 48-51, as Vandal junior Hannah Kiser won her first career individual cross country title and WAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year honor ... Idaho director of track and field/cross country Wayne Phipps was named WAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year a fifth time ... juniors Alycia Butterworth (8th) and Emily Paradis (9th) followed behind Kiser as the team's second and third finishers with times of 17:53.91 and 17:57.03, respectively ... Vandal senior Barry Britt led the way for the Idaho men with a third-place individual finish and an 8K time of 24:10.48 ... the men finished fifth with 113 points. 

Louisiana Tech
Matt Wolfe led the way for Louisiana Tech at Lincoln Parish Park, finishing 44th in the WAC Championships ... as a team the men finished seventh in the nine team meet ... May Kate Hayes was the Lady Techsters top finisher, placing 64th ... the women's squad started six runners but did not record a score since only two runners completed the race.   

New Mexico State Aggies
The New Mexico State University cross country teams concluded their season when they finished fourth in both the men's and women's event at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27 ... the men's team finished fourth with a team score of 101 ... the women's team finished fourth with a time of 83 ... seniors Courtney and Camille Schultz were each named to the first team All-WAC when Courtney finished second overall with a time of 17:25.81 and Camille finished sixth overall with a time of 17:42.22 in the women's 5K ... Gael Sanchez and Rylie Hightower finished sixth and seventh overall for NM State respectively ... Jonah Ruybalid was named to the second team All-WAC when he finished first for NM State and 10th overall.  

San Jose State Spartans 
San Jose State men's cross country came in ninth place at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship in Ruston, La ... the Spartans totaled 257 points as a team on the 8K course ... Mueen Ghoury crossed the finish line first for San Jose State in 48th place with a time of 26:29.96 ... the San Jose State women's cross country team finished in eighth place at the 2012 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship in Ruston, La ... the Spartans finished with a team score of 236 on the 5K championship course ... Rebecca Garcia crossed the finish line first for San Jose State in 39th place with a time of 18:57.24.

Seattle University Redhawks
The top seven Seattle U finishers from the Western Athletic Conference Championships will compete at the NCAA West Regional, hosted by the University of Washington at the Jefferson Park Golf Course this Friday, Nov. 9 ... The women's six-kilometer race will begin at 12 noon, and the men's 10-kilometer event is scheduled to commence at 1:15 p.m. ... runners not competing at the regional ran at the USATF Pacific Northwest Cross Country Championships ... Kimberly Pugliese was the top Redhawk finisher, crossing the finish line in 15th ... David Strand was the first Redhawk finisher with a time of 35:48, good enough for 22nd place overall.   

University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks  
The UT Arlington men's cross country team utilized its depth to win the school's first-ever Western Athletic Conference crown in any sport ... the Mavericks secured four of the race's top 10 spots to edge Utah State in the team standings ... Virgilio Martinez, who was named the league's Freshman of the Year, was once again the top finisher for UTA ... the Arlington native snagged fifth place after crossing the line with a time of 24:47.09 in the 8K race ... the UTA women's team, which has only freshmen and sophomores on its roster, placed fifth among eight schools with 125 points ... for the fifth time in as many meets, Hannah Nilsson (18:04.96) paced the Mavs, finishing 12th.

UTSA Roadrunners 
Senior Daniel Balbotnin raced to second-team all-league honors and UTSA finished sixth at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships ... Balbontin covered the Lincoln Parish Park 8,000-meter trail in 25:02.06, which was good for 11th place in the 70-man field ... UTSA came up just short, as Idaho edged the Roadrunners by only three points at the WAC Championships ... UTSA, which netted 51 points, was led by junior Alyssa Diaz for the fifth consecutive meet ... she placed third after covering the Lincoln Parish Park 5,000-meter course in 17:28.57 ... the Roadrunners will return to action on Friday, Nov. 9, at the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark.

Texas State Bobcats
The Texas State men's and women's cross country teams finished competition at the WAC Championships ... the women's team placed seventh with 204 points, while the men's team finished eighth with eighth with 254 points ... senior Esperanza Lopez was the first Bobcat to cross the line today, as she clocked a time of 18:46 for 34th place in the 5K ... freshman Aisha Graham was second for the Cats with a time of 19:02 ... freshman Tyrone Jackson was the top male runner with a time of 27:18 ... Joseph Rodriguez was three spots behind him with a time of 27:21.

Utah State Aggies
Utah State's men and women's cross country teams performed well Saturday as the men finished second and the women finished third at the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Championships ... four Aggie runners earned first-team all-WAC honors with two each for the USU men and women ... senior Alex Litzsinger and freshman Tylee Newman represented the Utah State women with first-team all-WAC accolades, placing fourth and fifth with times of 17:31.61 and 17:39.56 ... first-team all-WAC honorees for the USU men were junior Kyle McKenna, who led all Aggies with a second-place finish (24:06.90) and sophomore Eric Shellhorn, who crossed the finish line in sixth-place (24:47.79) ... USU cross country as they travel to Fort Collins, Colo., for the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Nov. 9.

NCAA REGIONALS

The 2012 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country, Friday, Nov. 9. WAC teams will be represented in three locations. The West Region will be held in Seattle, Wash., (Washington). The Mountain Region will be held in Fort Collins, Colo., (Colorado State), while the South Central Regional (Arkansas) will take place in Fayetteville, Ark.
