DENVER - Six Western Athletic Conference cross country teams
ran in Friday's NCAA Regional meets, trying to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Idaho, New Mexico State, Seattle U, UT Arlington, UTSA and Utah State all
represented the WAC in their respective regional races.
UT Arlington and UTSA raced in the South Central regional in
Fayetteville, Ark. The UT Arlington men finished 11th, while the Roadrunner men
finished 12th. In the women's race UTSA scored a fifth-place finish. UTSA
juniors Nina Herrera (18th) and Alyssa Diaz (25th) earned All-Region times.
The NCAA Mountain regional hosted by Colorado State, in Fort
Collins, Colo., featured both New Mexico State and Utah State. In the men's
race Utah State and New Mexico State finished back-to-back in 14th and
15th-place, respectively. In the women's race Utah State finished 10th, while
New Mexico State matched the men, finishing 15th. Three runners represented the
WAC on the All-Region team. New Mexico
State seniors Courtney (6th) and Camille Schultz (21st) were joined by Utah
State sophomore Alex Litzsinger (19th) in the top 25.
Idaho and Seattle U both raced in the NCAA West regional, in
Seattle, Wash. The Redhawks finished as the top WAC school in the meet,
finishing 16th. The Vandals finished 24th overall. In the women's race Idaho
finished 20th, three spots ahead of Seattle U (23rd). Seattle U's Erik
Barkhaus, the 2012 WAC individual champion, was the lone WAC runner to earn
All-Region honors in Seattle.
All-Regiona honors were awarded to athletes of schools that finished in the top 25 individually at one of the nine regional sites.
