The University of Denver swimming and diving team willtravel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Wednesday afternoon totake on Florida Atlantic ... last season the Pioneer womentopped FAU 163-123 ... sophomore Samantha Corea(Vancouver, British Columbia) took first place in the 100 butterfly ...The Pioneers last competed at the Iowa Invite (Nov. 30-Dec. 2), wherethe women finished fifth ... this week's meet will be the Pioneers' finalcompetitive swim of 2012 ... Denver will hit the water in 2013 on Jan.12 at Wyoming.
Idaho (3-3)
University of Idaho sophomore Rachel Millet added two more Vandal records to her cache at the AT&T Winter Nationals at Austin, Texas ... in addition to the 100 butterfly record she broke on Friday, she added the 100 freestyle with her time of 50.26 ... also for Idaho, Kelsie Saxe was clocked in 2:20.54 in the 200 breaststroke ... Jamie Sterbis was timed in 2:02.38 in the 200 butterfly ... the Vandals will take a break and resume competition on Jan. 19 against New Mexico State.
New Mexico State (2-3)
In its first WAC meet of the season, the New Mexico State swimming and diving team suffered a 176-116 loss at Northern Arizona ... sophomore Jessica Legge led the way for the Aggies with a victory in the 100-meter breaststroke ... junior Tricia Kiss scored for the Aggies with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 backstroke and 200 breaststroke ... senior Terrin Seaver recorded a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke and third-place showing in the 50 freestyle.
North Dakota (4-4)
The University of North Dakota women's swimming and diving team swam in its last home meet of the season with a 172-123 win over Northern Iowa at the Hyslop pool on Senior Day ... UND had great success in the 200 yard Individual Medley with each of the swimmers placing in the top four ... Caitlin Quon led the way with a time of 2:10.57 ... Quon also had first-place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:27.07) and the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.95 ... Ali Church had multiple first-place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.50) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:15.53) ... diver Rachel Waldbillig won the 1-meter and finished second in the 3-meter ... North Dakota will return to the pool on January 5, 2013 in Fort Myers, Fla.
Northern Arizona (4-2)
The NAU swimming & diving team will complete its weekof training in South Florida with an exhibition meet againstNorthwestern at approximately 1:15 p.m. Arizona timeThursday in Boca Raton, Fla ... the team was originallyscheduled to face Northwestern as well as Denver and Florida Atlanticon Friday but that meet was canceled due to the unavailability ofFAU's pool ... the meet with Northwestern - a member of the Big Tenconference - will be similar to NAU's home dual with Arizona Stateearlier this season with six nontraditional relays and one individualevent ... NAU and Northwestern have never before met in competition.
Northern Colorado (0-3)
The Northern Colorado swimming & diving team won threeevents Saturday afternoon at Wyoming but lost the dual185-115 at Corbett Pool ... the Bears will travel during theirwinter training to California for two weeks after Christmasand will compete against CSU Bakersfield and San Jose State on Jan.4 ... Senior Sara Moldenhauer and freshman Kelsey Smith took thetop two spots on the podium in the 3-meter diving Saturday ... Moldenhauerscored 274.73 points, while Smith totaled 251.03 ... junior GinaRiggle won the 100-yard breaststroke in one minute, 5.92 secondsand placed second in the 200 breast in 2:24.47, just 0.04 seconds offthe winning time.
San Jose State (2-1)
Following its fifth-place finish at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., San Jose State University is ranked 23rd nationally in the second Endless Pools Top 25 Division I Women's Swimming and Diving poll for the 2012-13 season ... the Spartans were ranked 25th in the first poll of the season ... San Jose State's fall season is complete ...the Spartans begin the second half of their season, January 4 in a double dual meet with Cal State Bakersfield and Northern Colorado in Bakersfield.
Seattle U (0-4)
The Seattle University women's swim team concluded the fall portion of its schedule as the 64th annual Husky Invitational ... Kevlyn Richards finished in 14th place in the morning preliminaries of the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.59 ... Dilynn D'Agostino finished in 21st place in 2:23.76 ... Richards was the top Redhawk in the 100 freestyle preliminaries, finishing in a tie for 111th place with a time of 54.91 seconds ... the Seattle University women's swim team will next compete against Whitworth University Saturday, Jan. 12, starting at 1 p.m. at the Connolly Center Pool.
Athletes of the Week
CSU Bakersfield's Lauren Kaufman and Northern Colorado's Sara Moldenhauer have been named the Western Athletic ConferenceSwimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Dec. 10-16.
Kaufman, a sophomore from Renton, Wash. (TCU/Hazen H.S.),won two individual events and was part of a CSUB relay that tookhome top honors as CSUB lost 162-132 to UC Santa Barbara onDec. 15. Kaufman won the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.41 and the100 freestyle with a time of 53.15. Kaufman swam the third leg ofthe CSUB 400 relay that won the race by posting a mark of 3:35.72.She swam the anchor leg of the Roadrunners 200 medley relay thatfinished third in a time of 1:49.78.
Moldenhauer, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Doherty H.S.),won the 3-meter diving at the Wyoming dual with 274.73 points andplaced second on the 1-meter board with 258.98 points. Her 3-metertotal was just two points off her season high from the Air Force dual.
