Utah State 79, Nicholls State 72


LOGAN, Utah - (USU Media Relations) Senior forward Kyisean Reed and junior center Jarred Shaw combined for 39 points and 23 rebounds in leading Utah State (7-1) to a 79-72 home win against Nicholls State (1-6) Thursday night in game two of the 2012 World Vision Basketball Challenge, sponsored by Gossner Foods at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Utah State, who won its sixth-straight game on the year, improves to 44-1 all-time in tournaments it hosts. USU also upped its home record to 5-1 this season and 215-19 under 15th-year head coach Stew Morrill.

Reed scored a season-high 20 points for Utah State and grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and the second of his career. Overall, Reed was 7-of-9 from the field and 6-for-8 at the free throw line, to go along with a career-high four blocked shots and three steals.

Central Michigah 92, Texas State 80


Mount Pleasant, Mich. – (Texas State Media Relations) Texas State was unable to come away with the win tonight, as it fell to Central Michigan on the road, 92-80. The Bobcats held the edge on the boards, but the Chippewas were able to earn the victory tonight. 

Joel Wright recorded his third double-double of the season, 20 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Staff registered 18 points and four boards. Reid Koenen chipped in 12 points, while Corey Stern added 10 points.

It was raining threes in McGuirk Arena tonight. Central Michigan (6-4) connected on 11 three-pointers, while Texas State (4-8) sank eight of its own. While the Chippewas used an outside game plan tonight, the Bobcats decided to go inside. Texas State dominated the paint, 42-32, which helped the Bobcat big men tremendously.

Boise State 78, Idaho 68


BOISE, Idaho – (UI Media Relations) University of Idaho men's basketball led by as many as 11 points and had control for much of the game, but the Vandals couldn't get the stops they needed in the second half against Boise State in a 78-68 loss at CenturyLink Arena.

Idaho held an eight-point halftime lead, but the Broncos chipped away at the start of the second half, first with 10 quick points from guard Derrick Marks,

a three-point play by forward Ryan Watkins and then back-to-back triples by guard Jeff Elorriaga that tied the game at 52-52 with 12:13 to play.

A careless pass by Idaho at the 10:29 mark of the second half gave BSU’s Igor Hadziomerovic a free fast-break layup and the Broncos a 54-52 edge.

Idaho tied once with seven minutes to play, but never regained the lead.
