Utah State 73, UC Davis 61


LOGAN, Utah -(USU Media Relations) Junior guard Preston Medlin scored a season-high 23 points and Utah State (8-1) made a season-high 12 three-pointers to record a 73-61 win against UC Davis (3-7) during day two of the 2012 World Vision Basketball Challenge held here Friday.

Utah State, who won its seventh-straight game on the year, improves to 45-1 all-time in tournaments it hosts. USU also upped its home record to 6-1 this season and 216-19 under 15th-year head coach Stew Morrill.

Medlin scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half as he finished the game shooting 9-of-17 from the field, 4-of-10 from three-point range and 1-for-1 at the free throw line for his 14th-career 20-point game, as well as his ninth career game with four or more treys. Junior guard/forward Spencer Butterfield tied his career-high by scoring 14 points for the second-straight night, as he was 4-of-9 from the field, 4-of-6 from three-point range and 2-for-2 at the free throw line.

Denver 72, Southern Utah 47


DENVER - (DU Media Relations) Senior guard Chase Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) became the 32nd Pioneer to score 1,000 career points, as the University of Denver men's basketball team toppled Southern Utah 72-47 Friday afternoon at Magness Arena.

Hallam reached the milestone on a three-pointer with 10:13 remaining in the game, his final bucket in an 11-point effort on 4-for-6 shooting.

Sophomore forward Royce O'Neale (Killeen, Texas) and sophomore guard Cam Griffin (San Antonio, Texas) led Denver (4-6) with 12 points apiece. Freshman guard Nate Engesser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 10 points in his first career start. He was matched by sophomore guard Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), who also finished with 10 points. Junior forward Chris Udofia (Irving, Texas) filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven assists, four rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals.

UTSA 75, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 45


CORPUS CHRISTI —(UTSA Media Relations) Kannon Burrage, Michael Hale III and Jeromie Hill combined for 59 points and head coach Brooks Thompson picked up UTSA career win No. 100 in a 75-45 victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night at the American Bank Center.

The win was the fourth straight against the Islanders (1-8) in Corpus Christi and it marked the largest margin of victory for the Roadrunners (4-6) since a 115-49 victory over Jarvis Christian on Jan. 25 of last season.

Burrage led all players with 21 points and seven rebounds, as the East Moline, Ill., native registered his second straight and fourth 20-point outing of the season.

Hale III added 20 on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor for his second 20-point game of the year and fourth of his UTSA career. The Federal Way, Wash., native also dished out a game-high six assists and posted a pair of steals.
