The month of February focused on New Mexico State.
Team: New Mexico State-Women's Basketball
Recently, the New Mexico State Women's Basketball team hosted The Las Cruces School Day game where all local are Las Cruces public schools were invited to come out to campus to experience a full day of speakers, educational campus tours, and lunch. This was all centered around the Women's Basketball game vs. Utah State.
The goal of this event was to shed more of a light on what New Mexico State University has to offer and encourage children that going to college is NOT out of their reach. Head Women's Basketball coach, Mark Trakh and members of the Women's and Men's Basketball team addressed the crowd of nearly 2,700 elementary and middle school students in the Pan American Center. They talked about the importance of education and being involved in productive activities such as sports to keep them away from the temptations students face today. After this the students were dismissed to go on campus tours for about an hour before coming back to the Pan American Center for lunch and to cheer on the Aggies.
All in all, it was a great atmosphere and a program that for being in its first year showed tremendous promise for not only the Las Cruces Public Schools community but for New Mexico State University as well.
