DENVER - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the first-team and second-team USTFCCCA All-America distinctions for the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field season today. A total of 649 awards were given as a result of performances at the past weekend's NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Nampa, Idaho. In addition, 36 individuals received honorable mention for their participation in the championships.
The Western Athletic Conference had one individual score and a total of five participate at the championships. Louisiana Tech senior Chelsea Hayes earned first-team All-America honors in the women's long jump, placing second with a mark of 21 feet, eight and one fourth inches (6.61 meters). Hayes also garnered second-team All-America honors in the women's 60-meter dash, earning 15th place with a time of 7.43 seconds. Rounding out the women, Idaho sophomore Hannah Kiser earned second-team All-America honors in the 3,000-meter run, placing 13th with a time of 9:26.88. Nevada senior La Tijera Avery picked up second-team All-America status tying for 16th place in the high jump with a mark of 5-8 3/4 (1.75m). For the men, Louisiana Tech sophomore Trey Hadnot earned second-team All-America honors in the 200-meter dash, placing 15th with a time of 21.24. Idaho senior Jeremy Klas garnered second-team All-America honors tying for 11th place in the pole vault with a mark of 17-4 1/2 (5.30m).
For team scores, Louisiana Tech's Hayes scored eight points for the Lady Techsters to tie for 28th place with Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma State, UCLA and Wichita State.
