DENVER – Utah State’s Hunter Nelson and Louisiana Tech’s Joshua Cox have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 12-18.
Nelson, a senior from Lolo, Mont. (Big Sky HS), claimed the only event title for the USU men winning the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:50.07 at Arizona's Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Ariz. last weekend. With the time, Nelson leads the WAC in the event this season.
Cox, a freshman from Ruston, La. (Cedar Creek HS), threw a WAC-leading javelin mark of 213 feet, nine inches (65.16 meters) in his first collegiate event at the Louisiana Classics meet in Lafayette, La. last weekend. The true freshman’s mark is ranked 10th in the NCAA East performance list and 18th in the nation so far this season.
