DENVER - Idaho's Sean McMullen has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week while San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert and Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro have been named the co-women's golfers of the week for March 12-18.

McMullen, a freshman from Kent, Wash. (Kentridge HS), posted his best finish of the spring when he placed second at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nevada, March 12-13. McMullen fired a 66 in the first round to take the early lead and finished with a 9-under par 207 (66-71-70), two strokes behind the eventual winner. His performance also helped the Vandals win the 15-team tournament. It is the first time that McMullen has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

Ziegert, a senior from Halmstad, Sweden (Allvar Gullstrand), won the Fresno State Lexus Clasic last week to claim her first regular-season collegiate title. She opened with a 2-under par 70 in the first round and finished at 1-under 215 (70-72-73) for a two-shot victory. Her birdie on the 17th in the final round secured the win. It is the fifth time in her career that Ziegert has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

Mortellaro, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz. (Mesa Distance Learning), won her ninth collegiate title with a one-stroke victory at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Honolulu, March 13-14. Mortellaro trailed by two strokes going into the final round but finished a stroke better than the second round leader with a 5-over par 221 (73-73-75). It is the 13th time in her career that Mortellaro has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.
