DENVER – Utah State’s Kyle McKenna and Fresno State’s Roderick Dash have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 19-25.
McKenna, a sophomore from Farmington, Utah (Viewmont HS), won his first event of the 2012 outdoor season clocking in at 14:42.53 in the 5,000-meter run at UC Irvine’s Spring Break Collegiate Invitational in Irvine, Calif. over the weekend. McKenna’s time leads the WAC and ranks 26th in the nation this season.
Dash, a junior from Atwater, Calif. (Buchach Colony HS), won the hammer throw at the ShareSlo.com Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif. last weekend with a personal-record mark of 189 feet, two inches (57.67 meters). His throw leads the WAC in the event this season and currently ranks 21st in the NCAA West Performance list.
Other track nominees included: Jesse Villines, Idaho and Yusuf Muhammad, Louisiana Tech.
