Verizon WAC Women' Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – New Mexico State’s LaSasha Aldredge and Fresno State’s Meagan McKee have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 19-25.

Aldredge, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (Central East HS), broke the all-time school record for the 400-meter dash when she placed first with a time of 54.28 (converted from 54.17 for altitude) in the event at the UTEP Springtime Invitational in El Paso, Texas last weekend. Her time in the event leads the WAC this season and currently ranks 14th in the nation. Aldredge also ran the 200-meter dash and helped mark school records in both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. NM State’s 4x400 time of 3:46.20 leads the WAC and places seventh all-time for the Aggies, and the team’s 4x100 time of 46.26 is second in the conference and eighth all-time in the NM State record books.

McKee, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif. (Santa Teresa HS), won the shot put at the ShareSlo.com Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif. over the weekend with a heave of 51 feet, 7.75 inches (15.74 meters). Her mark leads the WAC in the event this season and currently ranks 8th in the NCAA West Performance list and 20th in the nation.

Other track nominees included: Emily Paradis, Idaho; Kim Francis, Louisiana Tech; and Aubrie Haymore, Utah State.

Other field nominees included: Johanna Höcketstaller, Idaho; Micara Vassell, Louisiana Tech; Mareka Clark, New Mexico State; and Spela Hus, Utah State.
