DENVER - New Mexico State's Justin Shin and San Jose State's Jennifer Brumbaugh have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for March 19-25.

Shin, a junior from Maple Ridge, British Columbia (Thomas Haney Secondary School), tied for fourth place at the 2012 Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz., last week. After the second round, Shin was at even par and in a tie for 28th. He then went out and posted an 8-under par 64 in the final round, tied for the lowest round during the entire tournament. It is the first time that Shin has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

Brumbaugh, a junior from Scotts Valley, Calif. (Scotts Valley HS), won her first collegiate tournament on the second playoff hole at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. Brumbaugh carded a 7-under par 209 (69-67-73) and had to birdie the last two holes of the third round to force a playoff. In the first round, Brumbaugh had a hole-in-one on the par-3 13th, the first for a Spartan since 2006. She is also the first San Jose State player to ever shoot sub-70 rounds on the same day. It is the first time in her career that Brumbaugh has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

Other men nominated: Zak Griffiths, Nevada; and Tanner Higham, Utah State.

Other women nominated: Demi Mak, New Mexico State.
