Verizon WAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Utah State’s Daniel Howell and Idaho’s Andrey Levkiv have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 2-April 8.

Howell, a senior from Manti, Utah (Manti HS), posted a WAC-leading time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational last weekend. Howell’s personal-best time of 8:48.25 is currently ranked fourth in the nation and is No. 2 all-time in Utah State history in the event.

Levkiv, a sophomore from Renton, Wash. (Hazen HS), posted a WAC-leading and career-best shot put mark to win the event at the Northwest Scoring Clash in Spokane, Wash. over the weekend. His mark of 55 feet and 3.5 inches (16.85 meters) currently leads the WAC by over two feet, and bests his previous long throw by more than one foot. Levkiv went 157-11 (48.13m) in the discus for a second career mark of the day that ranks second in the conference. He also posted a hammer throw of 153-4 (46.75m).

Other track nominees included: Jordan Walker, Fresno State; Andrew Bloom, Idaho; and Dennis Richardson, Louisiana Tech.
