Verizon WAC Women' Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Fresno State’s Breeauna Thompson and Utah State’s Lindsey Spencer have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 9-15.

Thompson, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (Edison HS), won both the 200- and 400-meter races at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge in Sacramento, Calif. over the weekend. Her 200m time of 24.04 currently leads the WAC and is just 0.4 seconds off her personal best. She finished the 400m in 55.67, ranking sixth in the WAC, and also ran in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, helping both to season best times of 46.06 (third in the WAC) and 3:50.91 (sixth in the WAC), respectively.

Spencer, a senior from Ogden, Utah (Weber State), extended her Utah State record in the discus with a WAC-leading toss of 178 feet, nine inches (54.48 meters), to win the event at Sacramento State’s Mondo Mid-Major Challenge this past weekend. Spencer ranks 12th in the nation in the event. She also placed second in both the shot put and hammer throw with marks of 48-11.75 (14.93m) and 189-01 (57.63m), respectively.

Other track nominees included: Holly Stanton, Idaho; Jenifer McEntire, Nevada; Alishia Perkins, New Mexico State; and Bailee Whitworth, Utah State.

Other field nominees included: Meagan McKee, Fresno State; Ellen Rouse, Idaho; Deborah Amoah, Nevada; and Jndia Cleveland, New Mexico State.
