San Jose State 6, Hawai‘i 4
SAN JOSE, Calif. - (SJSU Media Relations) Sunday it was the Spartans' turn to capitalize on their opponent's mistakes and turn it into a big inning. San Jose State scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and win the final game of a three-game series against Hawai'i, 6-4, at Municipal Stadium.
The Spartans (19-16, 4-2 WAC) got four hits in the inning, but were handed runners in scoring position on two occassions thanks to an error and a passed ball. Matt Lopez and Michael Gerlach each had RBI singles in the inning, and Kalei Contrades brought home the Spartans' third run of the inning on a groundout.
The Spartans scored first for the third time in the series thanks to a first-inning Nick Schulz homerun that easily cleared the left field fence. It was Schulz's third homer of the season and third for the team. Trevor Podratz also homered for th Rainbows (23-16, 4-2 WAC), a solo shot in the eighth inning.
San Jose State starter Zack Jones (3-2) went six innings and struck out nine with just one walk while scattering six hits in the victory. It was the third time Jones has gone six innings this season, his career long for an outing. MIke Aldrete earned his second save of the season by getting the final two outs in the ninth inning. The right-hander got Collin Bennett to ground into a double play on the first pitch of the at-bat after walking Podratz.

Nevada 9, Sacramento State 1
SACRAMENTO, Calif. –(Sacramento State Media Relations) After taking the first two games of a three-game set with Nevada, the Sacramento State baseball team was looking for a sweep on Sunday but lost, 9-1, to the Wolf Pack in a Western Athletic Conference game at John Smith Field.
The Hornets (22-19, 5-4 WAC) scored just one run on 11 hits with no errors. Sacramento State stranded nine base runners. The Wolf Pack (21-18, 5-4 WAC) scored nine runs on 13 hits with no errors.
Both starting pitchers were strong early, as Sacramento State Tanner Mendonca and Nevada’s Tom Jameson did not allow a run through the first five frames.
The Wolf Pack, however, broke through in a big way by scoring at least two runs in each of the final four innings. The Hornets did not get on the board until freshman Kasey Chapan’s ground ball RBI in the ninth.
