DENVER – Idaho’s Stephane Colle and Andrey Levkiv have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 16-22.
Colle, a senior from St-Eustache, Quebec (Concordia), ran a WAC-leading time of 14:05.03 in the 5,000-meter run on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. His time is the fastest by a Vandal in 30 years and the fastest by a WAC runner since 2006. The time currently ranks 33rd in the NCAA West performance list. With the race, Colle moves to ninth all-time in his home province of Quebec in the event, while ranking third nationally in Canada.
Levkiv, a sophomore from Renton, Wash., (Hazen HS), jumped into Idaho’s all-time top-10 in the shot put on Saturday at the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif. to cap a strong weekend. He hit 57 feet, 7.75 inches (17.57 meters), a two-foot, four-inch personal best, to extend his WAC lead to nearly a four-foot margin. The mark is currently ranked 26th in the NCAA West performance list and moves him to ninth all-time at Idaho. He also competed in the shot put at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. on Friday, posting a toss of 54-2.5 (16.25m). Levkiv also entered the discus at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational, posting marks of 149-5 (45.55m) and 151-1 (46.05m), respectively.
