DENVER – New Mexico State’s LaSasha Aldredge and Utah State’s Lindsey Spencer have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 16-22.
Aldredge, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (Central East HS), broke the all-time school record for the 400-meter dash for a second time this season when she notched a time of 54.03 seconds at the Michael Johnson/Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas over the weekend. The time currently leads the WAC and is ranked 29th in the NCAA West performance list. Aldredge also competed in the 4x400-meter relay, helping NM State finish fourth overall with a time of 46.44.
Spencer, a senior from Ogden, Utah (Weber State), extended her Utah State record in the hammer throw with a toss of 200 feet, three inches (61.04 meters), to win the event as USU hosted the 2012 Mark Faldmo Invitational this past weekend. Spencer’s mark currently leads the WAC and is ranked 18th in the nation. She also won the discus with a throw of 171-04 (52.22m) and placed second in the shot put with a toss of 45-03.00 (13.97m).
