ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (March 26-April 1)

DENVER – Fresno State’s Marianne Jodoin has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 26-April 1.

Jodoin, a sophomore from Varennes, Quebec (Ecole Georges High School), led her team to two wins on the weekend, improving the team record to 10-6. Against UC Santa Barbara, she bested Sophia Novak, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, and against Nevada she defeated Michelle Okhremchuck, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, to clinch to Bulldog team win. In doubles, she and partner Tanya Murtagh bested UCSB’s Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf, 8-2, and then defeated Nevada’s Okhremchuk and Emma Verberne, 8-4. Jodoin, the 47th-ranked singles in the nation, improved her record to 12-3 on the season.

Other women’s nominees included: Hawai’i junior Katarina Poljakova … Idaho sophomore Sophie Vickers … Nevada junior Sophie Stevens … New Mexico State senior Natalia Salum … Utah State freshman McKenzie Davis.

WAC IN THE RANKINGS

Two WAC teams are ranked in the March 27 ITA Rankings. Hawai’i checks in at No. 53, and Fresno State is at No. 60.

Fresno State’s Marianne Jodoin is the lone ranked singles player in the WAC, at No. 47 in the nation.

TEAM RECAPS
FRESNO STATE
Last week, No. 60 Fresno State went 2-0, defeating UC Santa Barbara, 7-0, and Nevada, 6-1. The win over the Wolf Pack allowed the Bulldogs to remain undefeated in WAC play, at 3-0.

This week, the Bulldogs travel to Miami, Fla., for two duals, against Miami on Wednesday and Florida International on Friday.

HAWAI’I

No. 53 Hawai’i defeated UC Davis, 4-3, last Friday, improving to 9-6 on the season.

This week, the Rainbow Wahine host two WAC opponents, Utah State on Friday and San Jose State on Sunday.

IDAHO

Idaho fell to Portland, 4-3, last Sunday. The loss dropped the Vandals to 13-6 on the season.

This week, the Vandals face Weber State on Friday.

LOUISIANA TECH

Last week, Louisiana Tech fell to No. 43 Stephen F. Austin on Sunday. The loss dropped the Lady Techsters to 11-5 on the season.

This week, LTU will travel to Alcorn State on Thursday.

NEVADA
Nevada dropped two matches last week in Fresno, Calif., falling to UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, on Saturday and to conference opponent Fresno State, 6-1, on Sunday. Junior Sophie Stevens, who had two singles wins on the week.

This week, Nevada will host UC Davis on Friday and Pacific on Saturday.

NEW MEXICO STATE

Last week, New Mexico State defeated Abilene Christian, 4-3, on Friday. The Aggies improved to 9-5 on the season.

This week, New Mexico State will travel to face San Jose State on Wednesday, in a conference dual, and will then face Santa Clara on Thursday.

SAN JOSE STATE

San Jose State was off last weekend.

This week, the Spartans have three WAC duals. San Jose State hosts New Mexico State on Wednesday, before travelling to Hawai’i to play Utah State on Saturday and Hawai’i on Sunday.

UTAH STATE

Utah State was off last weekend.

This week, the Aggies travel to Hawai’i for three duals. USU faces Hawaii-Pacific on Thursday, Hawai’i on Firday and San Jose State on Saturday. The latter two duals will be part of conference play.
