Verizon WAC Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced - April 3

DENVER – Fresno State’s Remi Boutillier and Marianne Jodoin have been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 26-April 1.

Boutillier, a senior from Briancon, France (Externat Notre Dame), went 4-0 in singles and doubles during a doubleheader in Boise, Idaho last Saturday. At No. 1 singles, No. 28 Boutillier defeated Boise State’s No. 56-ranked James Meredith, 3-6, 6-1, (10-8). In the second half of the doubleheader against WAC opponent Utah State, Boutillier bested Sven Poslusny, 6-2, 6-1.  At No. 1 doubles, he and partner Francis Alcantara defeated Boise State’s Nathan Sereke and James Meredith, 8-4, and Utah State’s Sven Poslusny and Marcus Fritz, 8-4. Boutillier now stands with a 15-2 singles record and an 11-7 doubles record on the season.

Jodoin, a sophomore from Varennes, Quebec (Ecole Georges High School), led her team to two wins on the weekend, improving the team record to 10-6. Against UC Santa Barbara, she bested Sophia Novak, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, and against Nevada she defeated Michelle Okhremchuck, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, to clinch to Bulldog team win. In doubles, she and partner Tanya Murtagh bested UCSB’s Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf, 8-2, and then defeated Nevada’s Okhremchuk and Emma Verberne, 8-4. Jodoin, the 47th-ranked singles in the nation, improved her record to 12-3 on the season.

Other women’s nominees included: Hawai’i junior Katarina Poljakova … Idaho sophomore Sophie Vickers … Nevada junior Sophie Stevens … New Mexico State senior Natalia Salum … Utah State freshman McKenzie Davis.
