WAC Baseball Recaps - April 29
San Jose State 8, Sacramento State 7

SAN JOSE, Calif. – (SJSU Media Relations) It’s been a team mantra all season long – “Never give up.” On Sunday, the Spartans fought until the end.

After losing two leads and trailing 7-5 through 6 1/2 innings, the Spartans (20-19, 5-4 WAC) rallied for three runs, the last coming on a go-ahead single by Matt Lopez in the eighth, as San Jose State earned its fourth late comeback win of the year with an 8-7 victory over Sacramento State (24-19, 7-5 WAC) in the final game of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at Municipal Stadium.

“The keys for us today were No. 1 – we didn't throw any at bats away,” said San Jose State head coach Sam Piraro. “No. 2 – defensively we were solid. No. 3 – we didn't give up, we kept scrapping and found a way to win the game.”

Lopez, who had already drawn three walks and scored twice in the game, flared a one-out single over the head of Hornets shortstop Scotty Burcham to score the speedy Andrew Rodriguez from second for the game-winning run.

RENO, Nev.  - (Nevada Media Relations)  University of Nevada (24-19, 7-5 WAC) junior Tom Jameson pitched a shut out as the Wolf Pack defeated Fresno State (18-22, 2-7 WAC) 1-0 in the final game of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at Peccole Park Sunday afternoon.  With the victory the Pack won two of the three games in the series after an 8-2 victory on Friday.

The Pack improved to 24-19 and 7-5 in WAC play while FS fell to 18-22 and 2-7 in conference action.

Jameson and FS starter Thomas Harlan was locked in a pitchers battle most of the game.  Harlan held Nevada hitless until the sixth when Brooks Klein singled but the Pack were unable to score leaving two runners on base.

In the seventh Garrett Yrigoyen doubled with one down and was sacrificed to third base.  Harlan was lifted from the game and Cody Kendall came on to face Carlos Escobar.  Escobar singled inside the third base bag to score Yrigoyen with the only run of the game.
