San Jose State 8, #7 Stanford 5

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(SJSU Media Relations) Andrew Rodriguez hit a go-ahead, two-run homerun in the fourth inning Tuesday to spark a four-run Spartans rally, as San Jose State completed its first season sweep of No. 7 Stanford since 1995 with an 8-5 win at Blethen Field.

The Spartans (21-19) defeated the Cardinal (28-12) at Sunken Diamond in Stanford on April 17, 3-2, for the first part of the home-and-home sweep. It is also the first time the Spartans have swept all their games against Stanford and Fresno State in the same season since 1995.

San Jose State scored all eight of its runs in the first four innings, running out to leads of 3-0 in the first, 4-2 in the third and 8-4 through the fourth. The Spartans have scored early in seven of their last eight games, posting a total of 17 runs in the first through third innings.

Nevada 6, Saint Mary's 5

RENO, Nev.  – (Nevada Media Relations) The University of Nevada (25-19) baseball team defeated St. Mary’s (21-21) 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Peccole Park.  The Wolf Pack improves to 25-19 while the Gaels fall to 21-21 on the season.

The Gaels scored single runs in the first and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead.  The Pack took advantage of a SMC error in the bottom of the third inning to score four unearned runs to move in front 4-2.  Four different Pack players drove in a run in the big inning.

Garrett Yrigoyen singled home two runs in the bottom of the fourth and it was 6-2 Pack.  SMC scored twice in the fifth and once in the eighth to make the final score 6-5.

Pack closer Matt Gardner retired the side in the top of the ninth to earn his 10th save of the season.  The 10 saves ties Rico Lagatutta (1995) and Tyler Graham (2010) for the best season in school history.  Gardner’s 16 career saves is second to Lagatutta’s 24.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team (30-14) took an early 5-0 lead but fell 12-7 to Texas Tech (26-22) at Presley Askew Field, Tuesday, May 1.

The NM State bats started the game hot with senior Bryan Karraker blasting a solo-shot over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the first putting the Aggies on the board.  After a scoreless second inning, the Aggies crossed the plate four times with a sacrifice fly from junior second baseman Parker Hipp, an RBI single from senior shortstop Zach Voight and a two-RBI double from junior centerfielder Kyle Phillips.

Starting pitcher Michael Ormseth of Las Cruces threw two innings and struck out three batters but was pulled after the second because he is the expected started against Hawai'i on Saturday, May 5.  After Ormseth, NM State used eight more pitchers although it was junior right-hander Casey Collins who was credited with the loss as he gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth.
