ATHENS, Ga. -
Sophomore Marianne Jodoin
of the Fresno State women's tennis team was defeated by Washington's
17th-ranked Denise Dy, 6-4, 7-6 (3), Wednesday in the first round of the
NCAA Singles Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Jodoin, who was the 2012 WAC Player of the Year and entered the
NCAA Singles Championships ranked No. 41 nationally, ends her season
with a 19-5 singles record.
She had her chances in both sets, only to see the two-time All-American Dy come from behind to beat her.
Jodoin led the first set 2-0 and later 4-3, but Dy closed out set No. 1 by winning the last three points to take it 6-3.
The second set went back and forth between the two, as it was
tied and one, three, four and five. Jodoin eventually went up 6-5, but
Dy came back to force a tiebreaker that she won to take the match.
For Jodoin, her 2012 season built on to her already impressive
resume at Fresno State. After going 18-6 as a freshman in 2011, a year
in which she was also named the WAC Player of the Year, she now has a
37-11 singles record.
