DENVER - As the
cross country season continues on in the early season five Western Athletic
Conference schools appear in the week one regional rankings by the U.S. Track
& Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Utah State moved up from its preseason ranking of eight in
the men's Mountain Region rankings to seventh. New Mexico State dropped one
spot to 13th in the Mountain Region rankings. Idaho's men improved to 14th in
the in the West Region, starting the season ranked 15th. UTSA held steady in
the unchanged South Central Region rankings, remaining ranked 8th overall.
Flipping the page to the women, the Vandals begin the week
up a spot from their preseason recognition ranked 13th in the West Region. UTSA
of the South Central Region remained sixth overall, while UT Arlington makes
its debut in the South Central rankings at 14th.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined
subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional
representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with
current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA
Regional Championships.
