DENVER - Week two
of the cross country season begins with four Western Athletic Conference
schools appearing in the latest regional rankings released by the U.S. Track
& Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.
The Utah State men fell three spots to 10th in the Mountain
Region. The Aggie women make their first appearance in the early season
rankings as they move into 13th in the Mountain Region. New Mexico State stays
steady, remaining the 13th ranked men's squad in the Mountain Region rankings. The
NMSU women maintained their previous ninth overall rank after winning its home
meet, the Kachina Classic last Saturday.
Continuing on to the South Central Region, the UTSA
Roadrunners begin the week ranked eighth for the second consecutive week in the
men's poll. The women remained sixth overall, both Roadrunners squads finished
atop the podium at their home meet on Friday. UT Arlington moved up one spot in
the men's rankings to 11th. The Maverick women continue this week as
the 14th ranked team in the South Central Region, the Mavericks saw success in
both the men's and women's races, winning the Louisiana Tech Mook 4 meet on
Saturday.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined
subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional
representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with
current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA
Regional Championships.
