Utah State 3, Seattle U 2
Utah State head coach Grayson DuBose became just the second coaching position in school history to reach 100 career wins after the Aggies beat Seattle U in a five-set thriller (25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 20-25, 20-18) Thursday night at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. With the win, the Aggies improve to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in WAC play for the first time since 2005. The Redhawks drop to 6-7 on the season and 1-2 in the WAC.
DuBose becomes just the second coaching position to reach 100 wins. Marilyn McReavy and Mary Jo Peppler hold the school record with 209 wins as they were co-head coaches from 1976-81. In his seventh year at the helm of the Aggie program, DuBose is now 100-93 (.518).
The Aggies hit .149 for the match compared to the .126 of Seattle U. USU also out-blocked the Redhawks 18-12. It was USU's their third-straight match with double-digit blocks and eighth this season.
Rachel Orr was one of three Aggies in double-figure kills with 14, while Shay Sorensen added 13 and Josselyn White tallied 10. Paige Neves dished out 51 assists, breaking into the USU career assists list top 10 with 1,293 on her career.
Kaitlyn Van Hoff posted 10 blocks, while Sorensen and Elle Brainard logged six blocks each. Ashlan Rogers posted a match-high 24 digs on the night, while Neves, Sorensen and White all posted double-doubles on the night as Sorensen registered 14 digs, while Neves and White tallied 12 apiece.
Kaytlyn Dill led all players with 31 kills to go with 14 digs. Jacquie Brice also posted a double-double of 60 assists and 14 digs.
New Mexico State 3, Louisiana Tech 1
After losing the first set, New Mexico State came back to defeat Louisiana Tech in four sets (23-25, 26-24, 25-12, 25-21) Thursday at the Pan American Center. With the win, the Aggies improve to 9-3 on the season and 3-0 in WAC play while the Lady Techsters fall to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in the WAC.
New Mexico State out-hit the Lady Techsters .208 to .106. The Aggies also had more kills (60-42), assists (52-40), digs (64-57) and service aces (5-4). LA Tech out-blocked NM State 14-6.
Meredith Hays posted a team-high 17 kills to go along with 10 digs for her team-leading sixth double-double of the year. Lauren Loerch and Preslie Alexander added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Clara Vido led LA Tech with 17 kills, 11 digs and five blocks.
Denver 3, UT Arlington 0
Denver swept UT Arlington 26-24, 27-25, 25-19 Thursday evening at Hamilton Gymnasium. The win raises the Pioneers to 7-5 on the season and 1-2 in WAC play. The Mavericks drop to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in WAC competition.
Denver out-hit UTA .367 to .294 and won the blocking battle, 10-4.
Faimie Kingsley and Colleen King led the Pioneers with 12 kills each. Kingsley tallied seven blocks, while King notched five.
Maverick Taylor Gross tallied a match-high 16 kills.
San Jose State 3, Idaho 0
San Jose State swept past Idaho 25-15, 25-14, 28-26 in its WAC home opener at Spartan Gym Thursday night. With the win, the Spartans improve to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the WAC. The Vandals drop to 3-10 on the season and 1-2 in WAC play.
The Spartans hit .337 and held Idaho to a .113 hitting percentage. SJSU also tallied more kills (48-32), assists (46-30) and digs (55-34). The Vandals won the blocking battle, 8-7.
Hanah Blume led the team 12 kills on .435 hitting to go along with 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Alex Akana added 11 kills, while Mary Alice O'Reilly and Samantha O'Connell had 10 each. Michaela Leonard recorded 43 assists, while Kiely Pieper had a team-best 15 digs.
Idaho was led by Allison (Walker) Baker with 13 kills.
