DENVER – UTSA junior outside hitter McKenzie Adams has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 17-23. This is her second WAC Player of the Week honor of the season.
The Schertz, Texas native averaged a WAC-best 5.00 kills on .316 hitting to go along with 4.50 digs and 0.67 blocks per set to lead the Roadrunners to a pair of sweeps. She opened the week with her eighth double-double of the season with 17 kills and 16 digs in a non-conference match against Houston Baptist. She hit at a on .311 clip and added a pair of blocks and an assist. Adams then led UTSA to a sweep of rivals Texas State, the Roadrunners’ first home victory against the Bobcats in nearly four years. In that contest, she finished with 13 kills and nine digs.
Other nominees included: Colleen King of Denver averaged 3.83 kills, 1.33 blocks and 0.50 digs per set as the Pioneers went 2-0 on the week ... Louisiana Tech’s Maria Coelho averaged 7.86 assists, 1.00 digs, 0.86 blocks and 0.43 service aces per set last week ... Desiree Scott of New Mexico State averaged 2.29 kills on .423 hitting and 1.57 blocks per set as the Aggies remained the only unbeaten team in WAC play ... San Jose State’s Mary Alice O’Reilly averaged 3.38 kills on .489 hitting to go along with 0.75 blocks per set as the Spartans went 2-0 on the week ... Kaytlyn Dill of Seattle U posted a pair of double-doubles and averaged 4.90 kills and 2.40 digs per set ... UT Arlington’s Taylor Gross averaged 4.00 kills on .405 hitting last week ... Shay Sorensen of Utah State averaged 2.62 kills and 2.25 digs per set in helping the Aggies to a 1-1 mark on the week.
