WAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week Announced

DENVER - Denver's Samantha Corea and San Jose State's Amy Kilby have been named the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 7-13.

Corea, a sophomore from Vancouver, British Columbia (Magee Secondary School), took first in the 100 backstroke (59.19) and the 200 backstroke (2:03.61) in Saturday's meet against Wyoming. Corea also finished third in the 100 butterfly (58.27). Corea swam the third leg of the of the 200 medley relay for the Pioneers, helping the Crimson and Gold to a second-place time of 1:46.08.

Kilby, a senior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Putnam City North H.S.), made the final rounds and placed in the top ten in two out of three events at the Bruin Diving Invitational. She finished ninth out of 55 divers in the preliminary round of the 3-meter diving with a score of 267.30. Kilby advanced to the final round where she placed fifth with her score of 295.90 for a total of 563.20. Kilby finished ahead of one Olympic trial competitor, and three NCAA championships divers. She placed 12th in the 1-meter preliminary round and finished eighth overall with a total score of 490.10. 

Other swimmers nominated: CSU Bakersfield freshman Nicolette Goncalves and Seattle U senior Kevlyn Richards.
