DENVER - New Mexico State's Alisha Perkins and Texas State's Danielle Candelaria were named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 7-13.
Perkins, a junior from Dallas, Texas (Skyline H.S.), finished in the top three overall in each event she competed in at the Texas Tech Open. Perkins finished first overall in the 200m with a time of 24.59, recording the top time in the WAC 2013 season. Perkins then finished third in the 55m with a time of 7.13, which also moved her up to second all-time in the N.M. State record books.
Candelaria, a junior from Irving, Texas (MacArthur H.S.), picked up right up where she left off last spring when she won the high jump with a career-best leap of 1.76m (5'9.25''). Her jump is the best high jump mark tin the WAC this season by 0.12m (4.75") and 17th in the nation. She won the event at the A&M Invitational by 0.06m (2.25").
Other track nominees included: Idaho senior Lauren Schaffer, Seattle U sophomore Madison Davis, UT Arlington sophomore Sydney Hampton and Texas State sophomore Briana Sharp.
Other field nominees included: Idaho senior Kristine Leonard, New Mexico State junior Horlexus Willis, Seattle U junior Bethany Richards, UT Arlington junior Morgan Domingue and UTSA senior Eboni Johnson.
