DENVER
Senior Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) defeated Iowa State's Meghan Cassens 6-1, 6-3 to win the Tom Landry Singles Draw, as the University of Denver women's tennis team completed play at the Houston Open ... senior Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) also tallied a singles win 6-7, 6-2, 10-8 over North Texas' Victoria Parshikova to advance to the Leroy Burrell Singles Draw Final, but the flight final was cancelled due to delays caused by thunderstorms ... the Pioneers will kick off their spring season when they take on Texas Tech Saturday, Jan. 19.
IDAHO
Myriam Sopel, a former women's tennis standout at Indiana University, has been hired as the head women's tennis coach at the University of Idaho ... Sopel comes to Idaho from Wagner College, where she was the head women's tennis coach ... the Vandals will open team play against Washington State on Jan. 19.
LOUISIANA TECH
Louisiana Tech hired former Virginia Tech assistant women's tennis coach Freddy Gomez to be the new head coach for the Lady Techster tennis program ... Gomez served as an assistant coach for two and a half years with the Virginia Tech Hokies ... LA Tech will start team play when Central Arkansas travels to Ruston for their match on Jan. 26.
NEW MEXICO STATE
Last time out, senior Ginet Pinero led the Aggies with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alexis Garrett of UNLV at teh ITA Mountain Regional ... Pinero advanced to the third round but fell to Haley Driver of Montana, 6-3, 6-2 ... also in second-round action, sophomore Denise Van Der Ben fell to Simona Synkova of Wyoming, 6-1, 6-3 ... freshman Lisa Roslanova fell to Johanna Vang of Northern Arizona, 6-0, 7-5 ... The Aggies will be back on the court in the spring at UNLV on Feb. 8.
SAN JOSE STATE
The San Jose State women's tennis team closed the 2012 fall season at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University ... the Spartans finished their fall campaign with winning five of their six singles matches ... Erica Medlin, Julianna Bacelar, Amber Walker, and Margot Charron won straight sets against their opponents ... senior Chau Truong needed three sets to beat University of San Francisco's MilHadzi-Tanovic and is one win shy of achieving her 100th career major college tennis victory ... the Spartans do not compete again until January 16- 18 when they participate in their Training Camp Invitational.

Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) led team with 5-3 singles record in fall season ... Dayna Bennett (Issaquah, Wash.) has best doubles winning record at 2-1 while Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) has the most doubles wins on the season with three ... Lucas won a section of the Cougar Classic's Flight 1 Consolation bracket ... Bennett won BSU Jack Taylor Classic's White Flight Consolation West bracket ... the Redhawks will begin the spring season Tuesday, Jan. 15.
TEXAS STATE
The Texas State women's tennis team closed out its 2012 fall schedule with a second-place finish and a pair of consolation victories on the University of Houston Open Tournament's at the John Hoff Courts ... in the finals of the Fred Couples flight, Monica Pieratt suffered a 6-1, 6-2 loss against Houston's Kazimieruk to finish in second place ... Texas State's other victory came in the Randy Quaid flight as Mariana Perez defeated Jessie Boda of Liberty by a score of 6-2, 6-0 for a seventh-place finish ... Texas State kicks off the 2013 spring season.
UT ARLINGTON
The UT Arlington women's tennis team competed in the Texas Regional in Waco ... transfer student from Tyler Junior College, Brooke Dennis, proved that she has come to UTA to compete for the Mavericks ... she made it to the Semi Finals after defeating Anastasia Burobina 6-1, 6-1 and Solomlya Zink 6-3, 7-5 in the consolation round ... the Mavericks also competed well in doubles as Dennis was joined by teammate Elizabeth Thoms to defeat Burges and Martin 8-3 ... the women will begin team competition Feb. 1 against Oklahoma Central and Tarleton State.
UTSA
UTSA wrapped up its fall slate by collecting 13 victories, including three of its four doubles contests, last Saturday at the Texas State Play Date ... sophomore Irene Gandara Gonzalez, redshirt freshman Lynsey Maciolek and freshman Jacobea Junger all netted three wins during the event ... each of the three won their lone doubles tilt and two singles matches ... freshman Miranda Poile won both of her singles tilts, while seniors Natalie Hand and Kavya Menon logged one win on the singles courts ... the Roadrunners now will shift their preparations for dual match competition, which begins in February 2013.
UTAH STATE
The Aggie women's tennis team begins the 2013 spring season, hosting Idaho State on Jan. 18 ... Utah State last hit the courts in October at the ITA Regionals in Las Vegas, Nev. ... senior Jaci West and sophomore McKenzie Davis defeated Davidson and Pelchant of Montana (8-2). They were then eliminated in the quarterfinals by Verberne and Okhremchuk of New Mexico (8-5).
