WAC TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

Idaho Vandals  
Idaho senior Lauren Schaffer took a step down from her premier event, the 800 meters, and rolled to a victory in the women's 600-meter run with a time of 1:34.35, which converts to a school-record 1:33.19 for track size adjustment ... on the men's side, sophomores Ben Ayesu-Attah and Andrew Bloom provided the highlight finish of the day in the 400-meter dash ... Ayesu-Attah broke his own meet record from a year ago with a time of 48.69, while Bloom was right on his heels at 48.74 ... Idaho hosts its first home meet of the 2013 season on Saturday with the Idaho Collegiate I. 

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
The Louisiana Tech men are coming off a fourth-place finish at the WAC Championships last season ... The Lady Techsters are looking to better their third-place finish at the WAC Championships.  

New Mexico State Aggies
The New Mexico State University track and field team concluded the season opener Texas Tech Open with strong performances and high finishes by many Aggie athletes ... by the conclusion of the meet, seven new school records were made or improved upon ... the Aggies also claimed three individual titles for the meet ... Alishia Perkins finished first overall in the 200m when she ran a time of 24.59 ... Perkins also moved up on the NM State record list for the 55m when she ran a 7.13 to place second all-time in the event ... Brianna Cromartie made an immediate impact for the Aggies in her first collegiate meet when she placed third overall in the 200m with a time of 25.01 ... Two Aggies claimed top five spots in the long jump.

Seattle University Redhawks
The Seattle University track and field team started the 2013 indoor season with five school records during the UW Indoor Preview ... three of the records came in the throwing events, including Bethany Richards breaking her own record in the weight throw by almost three full feet, finishing third in her flight and 13th overall with a toss of 13.67 meters (44' 10.25") ... Bo Anderson set a new standard in the shot put with a throw of 14.10 meters (46' 3.25") ... Josh Walters won his flight of the weight throw after posting a mark of 14.55 meters (47' 9") ... Zach Stanfield led the sprinters on the men's side ... winning his preliminary heat of the 60 meter dash in 6.97 second  ... then duplicated that time in the finals to finish in a tie for fifth.

University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks  
Junior Bozidar Antunovic, competing in his first event as a UT Arlington Maverick, smashed the school record in the shot put to highlight the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational ... both UTA teams finished fourth at the season-opening meet ... Clayton Vaughn, a first-team All-American in the 60 meters last year, was runner up in the event with an impressive opening-meet time of 6.67 ... Ashly Wrighthad had the best individual finish for the UTA women, as she was the runner up in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.03 ... the men's team totaled 62 points to finish behind Texas A&M (111.5), Baylor (83) and Stephen F. Austin (67) ... the women netted 50 points to rank behind Texas A&M (145), Baylor (108) and Houston (57).

UTSA Roadrunners 
All-America high jumper Keith Benford recorded his second victory in as many meets to open his senior campaign at Saturday's Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational ... Benford cleared a meet-record 7-1 ¾ (2.18m) for the eighth gold medal of his career ... ... UTSA has posted a total of seven victories in its first two meets of the season ... Eboni Johnson won the triple jump for the first victory of her career at Saturday's Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational ... Eboni Johnson won the triple jump for the first victory of her career at Saturday's Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational ... competing in her specialty event for the first time this season, Johnson recorded a measurement of 39-7 ¼ (12.07m) on her third attempt of the day ... UTSA returns to action on Jan. 18 in Houston.

Texas State Bobcats
The Texas State women's track and field team opened the 2013 season with a sixth place showing and the Bobcat men's team finished in 10th place at the Texas A&M 12 Team Texas Invitational ... Danielle Candelaria led the Bobcats when she won the women's high jump after clearing 1.76 meters (5' 9.25") on her third attempt to win the event by .06 meters over Houston's Khalysia Mayo and Cassie Wiley ... Tyrone Jackson had the fourth-fastest time in the men's 800-meter race with a time of 1:55.37 ... Texas State's next indoor meet will be on Jan. 25-26 when the Bobcats compete at the Houston Indoor Invitational.   

Utah State Aggies
Utah State's men and women's track and field teams will open the 2013 season in Albuquerque, N.M. at the Cherry & Silver Invitational hosted by New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19 ... this is the first of three trips to the Albuquerque Convention Center for the Aggies this season, as they will also return for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Feb. 8-9 and again for the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 21-23 ... in 2012, the USU women swept the Western Athletic Conference titles marking the first time since 1994 that the Aggie women won both the indoor and outdoor conference titles.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2013 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships travel to Albuquerque, N.M. This year's championships will be hosted by the WAC and will take place at the Albuquerque Convention Center beginning Feb. 21 and running through Feb. 23. The Idaho men and Utah State women claimed the championships last year.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2013 Indoor Track & Field National Championships once again travels to Fayetteville, Ark. All events will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
