Seattle U 64, Louisiana Tech 47
Seattle U held Louisiana Tech to just 13 first-half points en route to a 64-47 win at the Connolly Center Saturday. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 10-6 overall and remain the only unbeaten team in WAC play at 7-0. The Lady Techsters fall to 8-9 on the season and 4-3 in the WAC.
Seattle U shot 38 percent from the field, 17 percent from three-point range and 58 percent from the free throw line on the game. Louisiana Tech connected on 29 percent from the field, eight percent from downtown and 47 percent from the charity stripe. The Redhawks out-rebounded the Lady Techsters, 55-38.
Ashley Ward led all players with 20 points. Kacie Sowell had 13 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double in the last six games and 10th this season. Brenda Adhiambo also scored 13 points, while Daidra Brown added 12.
Whitney Frazier led the Lady Techsters with 14 points, and Brittany Lewis recorded a team-leading eight rebounds.
Utah State 85, Denver 69
Utah State shot a season-high 56 percent from the field in an 85-69 win over Denver Saturday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Aggies improve to 8-10 overall and 5-2 in WAC play with the win. The Pioneers drop to 8-11 on the season and 3-5 in the WAC.
Utah State also shot 41 percent from downtown and 89 percent from the free throw line on the game. DU connected on 34 percent from the field, 21 percent from beyond the arc and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The Pioneers dominated the boards, 47-27.
Devyn Christensen led four Aggies in double-figure scoring with 25 points. Jennifer Schlott had 15 points and nine assists, which tied her career high. Jenna Johnson had 15 points and eight boards, while Franny Vaaulu came off the bench to score 12.
Kailey Edwards and Michaela Neuhaus led the Pioneers with 18 points each. Emiko Smith added 10 points and a team-high five assists.
UTSA 56, Texas State 46
UTSA held Texas State to its lowest point total of the season in a 56-46 road victory Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum. With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in WAC play. The Bobcats fall to 7-10 on the season and 1-6 in the WAC.
UTSA shot 37 percent from the floor, six percent from three-point range and 58 percent from the free throw line on the game. Texas State connected on a season-low 30 percent from the field, 27 percent from downtown and just 43 percent from the free throw line. The Roadrunners out-rebounded the Bobcats 51-40.
Whitney Wright recorded the third double-double of her career with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead UTSA. Miki Turner added 11 points, while Simone Young scored 10.
The Bobcats were paced by Diamond Ford, who scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the second half. Ayriel Anderson and Jasmine Baugus both finished with 11.
Idaho 70, UT Arlington 52
Idaho picked up its third win in the last four games with a 70-52 victory over UT Arlington Saturday at Cowan Spectrum Arena. With the win, the Vandals move to 7-11 on the season and 4-3 in the WAC. UTA drops to 3-14 overall and 1-6 in WAC play.
Idaho shot 44 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 36 percent from the free throw line on the game. UTA connected on 30 percent from the floor, 17 percent from downtown and 83 percent from the charity stripe.
Alyssa Charlston had a game-high 20 points, while Connie Ballestero added 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Maren Austgulen went 5-for-5 from the field and scored a career-high 11 points and Christina Salvatore added 10 points for the Vandals.
UTA was led by Laila Suleiman with 11 points. Aron Garcia grabbed 10 boards.
San Jose State 51, New Mexico State 50
San Jose State posted its third straight win, a 51-50 victory over New Mexico State at The Event Center Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Spartans improve to 7-11 on the season and 4-3 in the WAC. The Aggies fall to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in WAC play.
SJSU shot 29 percent from the field, 18 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the free throw line. NM State connected on just 27 percent from the floor, 17 percent from downtown and 71 percent from the charity stripe. The Aggies dominated the boards, 62-43, but committed 22 turnovers in the loss.
Ta'Rea Cunnigan led all players with 17 points, while Riana Byrd tallied 11 points and nine rebounds. Chereese Thomas also fell just shy of a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine boards.
Stefanie Gilbreath led the Aggues with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Kelsie Rozendaal also posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.
