Alex Litzsinger and UTSA's
Eboni Johnson were named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 14-20.
Litzsinger, a senior from Pocatello, Idaho (Highland H.S.), won her heat in the women's mile and placed second-overall with a time of 4:59.08 (altitude converted to 4:52.56) to help lead the USU women at the University of New Mexico hosted Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., this past weekend. Litzsinger has the fastest time in the women's mile in the WAC this season, along with ranking 10th in school history in the event.
Johnson a senior from Channelview, Texas (Channelview H.S.), was victorious for the second consecutive week in the triple jump. She skipped to a WAC-leading measurement of 39-11.75 (12.17m), which was a four-inch improvement from last weekend's winning mark at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational. The Channelview native defeated Texas Southern's Terralyn Johnson by more than a foot for the second meet title of her career. The senior team captain also placed 14th in the long jump with a mark of 16-10.5 (5.14m).
Other track nominees included: Idaho senior Liga Velvere, New Mexico State sophomore Diana Hawk, UT Arlington senior Shannon Reynolds and UTSA sophomore Shahira Ehiemua.
