WAC TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

Idaho Vandals  
In its first home meet of the 2013 season, University of Idaho track and field carried over the momentum from last weekend's record-breaking season opener with nine individual wins and an NCAA top-10 time ... Liga Velvere won the women's 800m with a time of 2:10.07, which leads the Western Athletic Conference and ranks 10th in the nation ... Karlene Hurrel recorded pair of wins in the women's 60m (7.83) and 200m (24.90) ... Drew Thompson notched career-best 8.55 to win the men's 60m hurdles ... Jason Lorentz, the defending WAC indoor long jump champion, opened his season with a winning leap of 22-7.25 (6.89m) ... Idaho will be at the Cougar Indoor at Washington State, Jan. 25-26.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
Kim Francis set a meet record to win the 60m hurdles and both 4x400m relay teams swept as Louisiana Tech's track and field program opened the 2013 indoor season at the Blazer Invitational hosted by UAB ... Francis' time of 8.39 set a new personal record along with a new meet record, topping Lauren Smith's time of 8.42 in the finals ... Dennis Richardson finished third in the 60m dash with a personal best time of 6.72 while Ed Ivory's personal record time of 6.93 was good for 11th place ...  Louisiana Tech returns to action on Jan. 25-26 at the Howie Ryan Invitational & Multis hosted by the University of Houston.   

New Mexico State Aggies
The New Mexico State University track and field team completed its first in-state meet of the indoor season on Saturday with the Cherry and Silver Invitational ... overall, 16 records have been set over the past two meets to open up the 2013 indoor track and field season ... Alishia Perkins and sophomore Jenna Banegas both competed in the 60m ... Perkins placed seventh overall with a time of 7.66, moving her up to fourth place all-time for NM State, and Banegas placed 13th overall with a time of 7.75 ... Brianna Cromartie competed in the 200m and made another impressive showing early in her Aggie career, placing 10th with a time of 24.96 to place her seventh all-time in the NM State record books ... Taylor Black marked a height of 10-06.00 (3.20m) in the pole vault.  

Seattle University Redhawks
The Seattle University track and field team started the 2013 indoor season with five school records during the UW Indoor Preview ... three of the records came in the throwing events, including Bethany Richards breaking her own record in the weight throw by almost three full feet, finishing third in her flight and 13th overall with a toss of 13.67 meters (44' 10.25") ... Bo Anderson set a new standard in the shot put with a throw of 14.10 meters (46' 3.25") ... Josh Walters won his flight of the weight throw after posting a mark of 14.55 meters (47' 9") ... Zach Stanfield led the sprinters on the men's side ... winning his preliminary heat of the 60 meter dash in 6.97 second  ... then duplicated that time in the finals to finish in a tie for fifth. 


University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks  
With the Western Athletic Conference Championships just four weeks away, the UT Arlington men's and women's indoor track and field teams embark on an important meet this week in Ames, Iowa ... the Mavericks will take part in the Bill Bergan Invitational, which consists of a multi-event competition Thursday and Friday, as well as single events on Saturday ... 

UTSA Roadrunners 
The UTSA men registered four victories and a total of nine podium finishes at Friday's Leonard Hilton Memorial  ... leading the way was senior All-America high jumper Keith Benford, who won the meet championship for the third consecutive year ... he cleared 6-10 3/4 (2.10m) in his lone attempt at the height and it was his third victory in as many meets this season (ninth of illustrious career) ... the women's squad registered three victories and a total of nine podium finishes ... leading the way was senior triple jumper Eboni Johnson, who was victorious for the second consecutive week ... she skipped to a measurement of 39-11 ¼ (12.17m) ... the Roadrunners will be back in action this weekend at the two-day Howie Ryan Invitational & Multis in Houston.

Texas State Bobcats
The Texas State women's track and field team opened the 2013 season with a sixth place showing and the Bobcat men's team finished in 10th place at the Texas A&M 12 Team Texas Invitational ... Danielle Candelaria led the Bobcats when she won the women's high jump after clearing 1.76 meters (5' 9.25") on her third attempt to win the event by .06 meters over Houston's Khalysia Mayo and Cassie Wiley ... Tyrone Jackson had the fourth-fastest time in the men's 800-meter race with a time of 1:55.37 ... Texas State's next indoor meet will be on Jan. 25-26 when the Bobcats compete at the Houston Indoor Invitational.  

Utah State Aggies
Utah State's men and women's track and field teams will travel to Nampa, Idaho to compete at Boise State's Jacksons/New Balance Invitational at the Jacksons Indoor Track Facility on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26 ... after competing in New Mexico's Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M on Jan. 18-19, senior Alex Litzsinger and redshirt-freshman Briton Page were named the Western Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Indoor Track Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 14-20.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2013 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships travel to Albuquerque, N.M. This year's championships will be hosted by the WAC and will take place at the Albuquerque Convention Center beginning Feb. 21 and running through Feb. 23. The Idaho men and Utah State women claimed the championships last year.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2013 Indoor Track & Field National Championships once again travels to Fayetteville, Ark. All events will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
