CSU Bakersfield (5-6)
CSU Bakersfield won four events but UC Davis defeated the Roadrunners 176-113 in a women's swimming dual Saturday ... Ali Gillespie earned first place won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:07.25 ... Nicolette Goncalves won the 100 butterfly in a time of :58.22 ... Jeanette Dove placed first in the 200 IM (2:14.78) ... Kelsey Lange, Anna Dravis, Louise Westergren and Kristin Koehler won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.84 ... the Roadrunners travel to Loyola Marymount next Saturday for a tri-dual with the Lions and Cal Baptist beginning at 12 p.m.
Denver (5-4)
The Pioneers traveled to Utah for the weekend to compete against Utah and BYU ... the Utes defeated Denver 166-128 ... Denver lost to BYU 156-144 ... at Utah Alex Suppan won the 200 butterfly (2:04.61) ... Kirsten Milberg won the 200 backstroke (2:04.31) ... Bridgette McNally took first in the 400 IM (4:24.63) ... against BYU Samantha Corea led the Pioneer women with three first-place finishes ... Corea won the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.93, and then followed that up with wins in the 200 backstroke (2:00.81) and the 100 butterfly (56.13) ... The women's team will host Boise State for senior day on Friday, Jan. 25.
Idaho (4-3)
In their final home meet of the season, the University of Idaho Vandals didn't miss a beat after a six-week break as they defeated Western Athletic Conference opponent New Mexico State, 154-144 ... Rachel Millet had three individual wins, 50 free (23.66), 200 free (1:52.37) and the 200 backstroke (2:00.75) and anchored the 400 free relay ... Diver Paige Hunt won both events and Jamie Sterbis' 200 butterfly (2:03.28), Janelle Stacy's 100 butterfly (57.58) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.10) also added first-place finishes.
New Mexico State (3-5)
In a tightly contested dual meet, the New Mexico State swimming and diving team suffered a 154-144 loss at Idaho, Jan. 18 ... Jessica Legge had an outstanding meet with three individual victories ... Legge won both the 100 breaststroke (1:03.78) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.71) en route to breaking Idaho's pool records in the events ... she also captured top honors in the 200 individual medley ... the Aggies opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay ... The Aggies conclude the regular season, Feb. 2, when they host in-state rival New Mexico in Las Cruces.
North Dakota (6-8-1)
The University of North Dakota women's swimming and diving teams split a pair of decisions at a triangular meet hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy ... UND defeated Seattle, 144-88, while the host Falcons earned a 156-77 decision over UND Friday night ... on Saturday the UND women split, winning 123-96 over Seattle and falling 122.50-93.50 to the host Falcons ... on Friday Morgan Lynch was runner-up in the 1000 freestyle, etching an 11:05.03 time with teammate Madeline Smith close behind in third (11:11.13) ... in Saturday's meet Veronica Medon dug down to pull out a win in the 100 back (59.31) ... North Dakota will travel to Minneapolis to face Minnesota on Friday then will head to Vermillion, S.D.
Northern Arizona (5-4)
NAU senior Kristy Ardavanis broke the Wall Aquatic Center records with career-best scores on both 1-meter and 3-meter and freshman Ellie Morrissey broke the pool record in the 100 freestyle as NAU defeated Colorado State in a 177-120 victory ... the Lumberjacks ended their 2012-13 home schedule with a perfect 4-0 record in duals ... In her final home meet Ardavanis opened with a career-high score of 329.93 on 3-meter to break the pool record ... Ardavanis' winning total of 325.65 on 1-meter broke her own pool record set in 2011 ... The Lumberjacks opened the meet by placing first and second in the 200 medley relay and freshman Kendall Brown won the first individual event, taking the 800 freestyle in 9:15.68.
Northern Colorado (0-5)
The Bears dropped both of Friday's duals, losing to CSU Bakersfield 167-132 and falling to San Jose State 187-107 ... juniors Courtney Van Oost and Gina Riggle each won one event and had a second-place finish ... senior diver Sara Moldenhauer finished in the top three on both boards ... Van Oost was victorious in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall first in 2:07.02 ... Riggle won the 200 breaststroke with her time of 2:25.01 ... Moldenhauer, a two-time WAC Diver of the Week, placed second on the one-meter and third on the three-meter boards after scoring 240.45 and 227.60, respectively ... the Bears host their final dual meet of the year on Jan. 26, welcoming New Mexico to the Butler-Hancock pool.
San Jose State (7-1)
The San Jose State University women's swimming and diving team secured its seventh straight win of the season defeating the University of Nevada, 160-140 ... in the 16-event meet, the Spartans (7-1) had nine first place finishes including the 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays ... juniors Darcie Anderson and Ashlyn Acosta finished first in three races each ... Anderson placed first in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breaststroke with times of 1:05.99 and 2:21.69, respectively ... Acosta also had an impressive day as she placed first in the 200 Butterfly in 2:05.87 and the 100 Butterfly in 56.42.
Seattle U (1-8)
The Redhawks lost to conference foe North Dakota (144-84) and host Air Force (156-69) Friday night in a double dual meet at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Natatorium ... on Saturday the Redhawks improved but fell to Air Force (135-77) and North Dakota (123-96) ... Saturday Kevlyn Richards won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.56, over two seconds faster than her nearest competition ... Seattle University (1-8) will take the next month to prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Championships, held at the Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 27-March 2.
Athletes of the Week
New Mexico State's
Jessica Legge and Northern Arizona's
Kristy Ardavanis have been named the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 14-20.
Legge, a sophomore from Newcastle, New South Wales (Lambton H.S.), won both the 100 breaststroke (1:03.78) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.71) en route to breaking Idaho's pool records in the events. Legge also captured top honors in the 200 IM (2:07.83). She swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay (1:45.99), finishing .05 seconds behind the first-place team.
Ardavanis, a senior from Gilbert, Ariz. (Mesquite H.S.), broke the Wall Aquatic Center records on both 1-meter and 3-meter while winning both events in her final competition in her home pool. Ardavanis open with a career-high score of 329.93 on 3-meter to break the pool record of 327.83, set in 2008. The score was the second highest 3-meter total in program history as was Ardavanis' winning total of 325.65 on 1-meter which broke her own pool record set in 2011. The scores were also the highest in the WAC this season as Ardavanis won 3-meter by more than 20 points and 1-meter by more than 40 points. She won both boards for the thrid time in duals this season.
Other swimmers nominated: Denver sophomore Bridgette McNally, Idaho sophomore Rachel Millet, Northern Arizona freshman Ellie Morrissey, North Dakota senior Kara Fisher, San Jose State junior Darcie Anderson and Seattle U senior Karla Ruff.
Other divers nominate: Denver sophomore Dana Gau, Idaho junior Paige Hunt, New Mexico State freshman Audrey Ruiz and San Jose State senior Amy Kilby.
